Electoral college bill passes Senate

A bill requiring members of the Electoral College to follow the popular vote when submitting their presidential ballot passed the Senate 16-3 with two absent.

The bill is meant to ensure the will of Delaware voters is faithfully honored when the Electoral College convenes every four years to decide the outcome of presidential elections.

SB 57 would specifically adopt the Uniform Faithful Presidential Electors Act – model legislation passed in at least eight other states to prevent rogue electors from usurping the popular vote.

Under the bill, electors would be required to sign a pledge to mark their ballots in accordance with the popular vote. Any attempt by an elector to submit a vote in violation of that pledge would effectively constitute a resignation, and begin a process to replace that elector.

SB 57 now heads to a House committee for consideration.

The current flag of Sudan (Arabic: علم السودان, romanizedʿalam as-Sūdān) was adopted on 20 May 1970 and consists of a horizontal red-white-black tricolour with a green triangle at the hoist. The flag is based on the Arab Liberation Flag of the Egyptian Revolution of 1952, as are the flags of Egypt, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, and Palestine and formerly of the United Arab Republic, North Yemen, South Yemen, and the Libyan Arab Republic.

Slight “reform” of the Electoral College is nice, but ultimately worthless. What is needed is abolition of the college. Long ago saw the Electoral College as a “Safety Valve” for the rich founders who feared democracy and what it might bring. A last chance for the powerful to over rule the popular vote. Gee! Reminds me of the red states trying to implement the same game in their states.

It’s Tax Day. Did you get your refund yet? I e-filed about a month ago and my refund was direct deposited last week.

U.S. IRS clears massive backlog of unprocessed paper tax returns

The U.S. Internal Revenue Service declared on Tuesday that it is completing its first “normal” tax filing season since the COVID-19 pandemic struck in 2020, with a backlog of millions of unprocessed returns from previous years fully cleared.

New IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel told reporters that the initial spending of $80 billion in new IRS funding helped purchase new scanning technology that has allowed paper returns to be digitized and quickly processed.

Ahead of the 2023 tax season, which has a midnight Tuesday filing deadline, the IRS hired 5,000 new taxpayer service agents to cut down call waiting times, and with the new scanning technology, it was able to clear the backlog of all error-free returns, Werfel said, leaving only those with questions, audits or other issues to be resolved.

A U.S. Treasury spokesperson said the IRS ended 2022 with a backlog of 1.4 million unprocessed individual and business returns and those were cleared by mid-March.

Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives have targeted the $80 billion in new IRS funding as part of their spending cut demands in exchange for raising the $31.4 trillion U.S. debt ceiling.

Even since I took my current job 8 years ago, I’ve yet to get a refund. I always owe small amounts. I guess it’s nice that the money was in the bank or whatever, but interest rates are so low that it doesn’t help as much now…

After this trial and it is determined that Faux News lied and repeatedly lied and purposefully lied, does the FCC have any kind of case to rescind their license for misinformation?
