Song of the Day 5/11: Imagine Dragons, “Crushed”
Imagine Dragons, in case you don’t keep up with such things, is about as corporate as rock bands get these days, selling out arenas with a generic sound that has earned them as much scorn today as Nickelback and Creed did in theirs. So I don’t know whether it’s a surprise or not that they’ve released a new song with a video shot near the front lines of the war in Ukraine.
It’s not battle footage, just a hand-held camera following a 14-year-old boy through what remains of his village, recently reclaimed after months of Russian occupation. It concludes with an appeal for donations. The music itself is about as generic as you’d expect, but the video is worth a gander.
That 14 year old has the hardened look of a 50 year old.
I guess I’m some kind of musical muggle. I liked it.
I like Creed…a lot
Lots of people do. Very few of them are critics or other musicians.
Kinda reminds me of the legendary Belarussian movie “Come and See.”
