1. Trio Of Stalwart Progressive Candidates Announce For State House Races.

It’s been a great couple of weeks.  Frank Burns announces to challenge Mike Ramone in the 21st again.  Dr. Monica Beard files to challenge Michael Smith in the 22nd.  And Marty Rendon announces for what is expected to be Pete Schwartzkopf’s vacant 14th RD.  While Rendon has not yet officially filed, both Burns and Beard have active committees and can accept contributions.  I’ve provided the links.  All you have to do is click on them to provide some $$’s.

2.  Ruth Briggs King To Primary State Sen. Pettyjohn?  You remember Pettyjohn.  Thought he had a golden parachute lined up at the Suxco Department of Elections but didn’t.  RBK has moved out of her House district (did she announce her resignation on June 30?  Haven’t seen anything about it), but is apparently in Pettyjohn’s district.  Word is that she got sick of the ‘mansplaining’ in her own Caucus, where she was the only woman.  There are a few issues where she’s fairly reasonable, so she’d be an upgrade over Pettyjohn.

3.  Democrat Tracey Miller Files To Challenge Rethug Lyndon Yearick In 34th RD.  I think  it’s this Tracey Miller, who is the Director Of Marketing And Engagement for the Dedicated To Women Health Clinic in Dover.  This Kent County district is far from a lost cause, especially post-Dobbs.  Yes, I know that registration can be misleading, but 8189 D’s, 6100 R’s, and 5560 I’s tell me it’s a district well worth contesting.  Especially with a candidate emerging this early.  Put this on your watch list.

4.  IPOD’s Select–Dr. Michael Katz(?!)–To Run For US Senate.  Yes, he once was a State Senator as a D.  For one term.  The guy he beat was a Clatworthy, who was, to put it mildly, out of his element in a northern NCC district.  Why he is running on the line of a party that endorsed Donald Trump is beyond me, except to say that some people have a pathological need to run for office.  Katz apparently also has a pathological need to lose.  Or perhaps he just had a pathological need to see his name mentioned in Delaware Liberal.  Consider it mentioned.

That’s all I’ve got.  What’d I miss, and whaddayathink?

  1. AA says:

Tracey Miller is an AMAZING candidate, I’ll definitely be knocking doors for her. If anyone can win in that district it is her.

I’m hearing Mike Smith (not the State Rep) will be running in the dem primary for Ramone’s seat.

Also have heard RBK will not be resigning until the building of the home is complete.

  2. Makes sense. I typed in Michael Smith and then Mike Smith with Newark in the subject line. Came up with a chef who may or may not live in Newark and a real estate agent who sells houses in Newark but appears to live in Pa.

Oh, and, of course, Rep. Michael Smith.

  3. Jason330 says:

Lyndon Yearick Is a truly nuts MAGA psycho. Should be beatable in a Presidential year.

    • Kent says:

I live in his district he is not a MAGA nut however he is a social and fiscal conservative BUT very good at constituent services which will make him tough to beat.

  4. deeds says:

I don’t think candidates can “file” for 2024 office yet. I see nothing on the website.

When you say file do you mean campaign committees with campaign finance?

    • Yes. They can file their committees. As have, most recently, Dr. Monica Beard and Tracey Miller. When filing their committees, both listed the offices they were running for.

Frank Burns’ committee has remained active and can raise money. Others, like Matt Meyer, have filed their committees and are raising money.

  5. I think I enjoy doing these pieces more than any others.

Mainly because so many people bring other facts and (let’s face it) rumors to the table.

I’m a political junkie, and I’m glad that so many of you are as well.

  6. Jean says:

While the rumor mill is churning, it seems like Anthony Delcollo has been kicking the tires for another run. No idea where or when, but he was one of the few Rs that didn’t go full MAGA. The merit construction orgs and the chamber of commerce types like him.

    • Maybe not full MAGAt, but virulently anti-union, and 100% pro-guns in the hands of anyone who wants them.

Perhaps he’ll take one for the ‘team’, and run for something like Congress.

  7. Food for Thought says:

Shame to see Smith vs. Burns. We would benefit from them both in office.

  8. Jab says:

I have heard RBK’s son, Justin is planning on running for her Rep. seat.
not to be mistaken with the Juston King who ran against Paradee.
