Rumor Watch: Monica Beard working with people who know what the fuck they are doing

I’m camping out on the Highlands Bunker URL and smashing “refresh” to see if the good news I heard about Monica Bead’s campaign is true.   For now let’s just say that there is a huge quality gap between Democratic campaigns that get it and campaigns that don’t.

Poll: Trump leads DeSantis by a 24-point margin in Florida

By the time DeSantis goes back to spending more time with the family, this guy is probably going the new object of Trump’s withering insults and bullying.  I wonder what he’ll decide pick on?

Vivek Ramaswamy is paying supporters to find him donors

It now pays to be a supporter of Vivek Ramaswamy’s presidential bid — at least for those who can convince their friends to click a link and donate.

The 37-year-old Republican is launching the “Vivek Kitchen Cabinet,” a scheme that promises to pay participants 10 percent of any money they raise for his campaign. It’s the latest attention-grabbing initiative by the longshot candidate, highlighting the frantic race underway by 2024 GOP presidential contenders to build up their grassroots donor base to qualify for upcoming debates.

Türkiye Changed its Mind – Sweden to Join NATO

It was the flip-flop heard ’round the world: Turkish President RECEP TAYYIP ERDOĞAN finally backed Sweden’s request to join NATO yesterday — after months of resisting pressure from the entire Western world.

The handshake agreement — announced by Erdoğan, NATO Secretary General JENS STOLTENBERG and Swedish Prime Minister ULF KRISTERSSON — came just before the alliance’s annual meeting kicked off in Lithuania and settled one key question hanging over the confab.

Trump’s legal team actually made a valid legal point.

NEW OVERNIGHT — “Trump wants classified documents trial delayed until after 2024 election,”

DONALD TRUMP on Monday called for a lengthy delay before he goes to trial for allegedly hoarding military secrets at his Mar-a-Lago estate, contending that proceeding while he remains a candidate for president would make it virtually impossible to seat an impartial jury.”

Turkey was a debatable addition to NATO, Sweden a very good addition and the same for Ukraine. Putin or not it will give Russia pause the next time. DeSantis? The more you know the more you tend to ridicule, perhaps no more the Fascist hero of the future. As for Vivek Ramaswamy where the hell do they get ’em? Not that I care.

  2. mediawatch says:

Trump indeed makes a valid point. Of course, if he wins that one, next will be that it’s impossible to find an impartial jury to try an incumbent president or that it’s equally impossible to find an impartial jury to try a defeated presidential candidate. In Trumpworld, it’s impossible to find an impartial jury, period.

    • Jason330 says:

That’s the grift. Delay, dissemble, dispute. All while keeping the fundraising machine going.

From what I’ve read, it worked so well in his “business” life because nobody could afford to keep legal proceedings going.

    • Arthur says:

Where the jury will be pulled from had an overwhelming trump majority. And you know when they are all asked if they can be impartial they will kiss their trump nft and say yes

What if they gave a recession and nobody came?

According to a Yahoo News/YouGov poll from mid-June, just 17% percent of U.S. adults now say no when asked if the country is “heading for a recession.” In contrast, a combined 6 in 10 think the economy is trending in that direction (18%) or that a recession has already begun (43%).

But then a funny thing happened on the way to the recession: Spending has continued to go up, and unemployment has continued to go down. Meanwhile, gas prices have dropped, and grocery prices have leveled off. Inflation appears to have peaked.

As a result, the same experts who used to swear up and down that a 2023-24 recession was inevitable are no longer so sure. In fact, some now think the U.S. economy may have dodged a downturn entirely.

    • bamboozer says:

My response remains the same: Capitalism! Is attempting to destroy the economy with interest rate increases the only weapon you have to fight inflation? And as ever doing it on the backs of the men and women who actually do the work? This time the game failed, and the economy prospers, I’m sure billionaires are crying somewhere. Perhaps on their mega yacht, space craft or private island.

      • puck says:

The contractionary Fed rate hikes are fighting against the expansionary cash surge from the Inflation Reduction Act. So far IRA is winning.

Speaking of rumor watch, sounds like Colleen Davis will put her recently-republican self up against McBride in the Congressional primary

    • Jason330 says:

If true, I don’t get it. I think she’d have a better shot at Gov. If the goal is to lose in a primary, why not Coons?

    • I know that’s been the rumor for awhile. You might think she’d reconsider.

Don’t know what constituency in the Democratic Party she’d have an advantage with over McBride. But it’s a free country.

Anyone know whether Eugene is still planning to run?

    • Andrew C says:

Love ’em or hate ’em, Sen. McBride was also the featured guest on one of the biggest political podcasts in the world today, Pod Save America:

I love countdowns! Playing along with the DLDD Clock will provide just the boost I need to survive the hot, humid and sluggish days until the Ides of August. Thanks, J.
