To not be accused of baiting and switching, only the beginning is very DL oriented. By the midpoint, REV takes the conversation into very productive territory.

  2. deeds says:

She seems nice, but i think needs a ton of work….

She sounded like a Mike Smith fan….

There is being diplomatic, and then there is just not giving me a reason to vote for you. Or donate….

Sorry I like a little more fire in my candidates

    • Alby says:

She’s a lot better than the last challenger, whom I met when she was door-knocking; she seemed paranoid and weird. I voted for her anyway, of course, but “seeming nice” is actually an improvement.

Mike Smith is very active in the community, but from what I’ve seen he’s a robot. A human is a good challenger against a robot. She doesn’t know if Mike Smith is a wonderful father — he plays a wonderful father in public, we have no idea what kind of father he is, and I frankly don’t give a fuck.

That said, she should have realized that this was the wrong audience for being nice.

    • Troll, troll, troll…

      You’re on notice.

      • Listening to the podcast, she’s well-informed, likeable, and has issue positions that I share.

She’s so much more fully-formed than most candidates at this stage of the game.

This is not gonna be an easy race. But we’re already ahead of the game: We’ve got a great candidate.

“She sounded like a Mike Smith fan….”

That is the right approach for a Dem challenger.

Smith has generated substantial positive “constituent service” buzz by doing nothing more than reposting state and county press releases on topics of local interest. Negative campaigning is likely to generate blowback.

A challenger will have to acknowledge the positive impression Smith has built, while drawing contrasts on substantive issues, without going negative. I really don’t know which issues should best be highlighted.

The Hockessin electorate is deeply non-progressive on taxes, education, police, and race relations, so don’t expect red meat on those issues. There’s a reason we have a Republican representative.

  4. Andrew C says:

A rambling podcast only put back on track by the interviewee, not the interviewer.

I don’t care very much as this person’s “Hockessin values” mean nothing to me, but even after listening to this entire thing, once again a very Inside Baseball wonky discussion over my head, I still have no idea who this person is. You did a very poor job of introducing her to an under-informed voter, but I guess there are very few of those listening to this show so it doesn’t matter a whole lot.

  5. RE Vanella says:

I am bizarro Larry King the anti podcast

  6. RE Vanella says:

Fair critique though. Imagine the stuff Karl cut! Dreck.
