Song of the Day 7/18: Judas Priest, “Breaking the Law”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment, National by on July 18, 2023

Against all odds, it seems Donald Trump is going to be indicted for his role in the Jan. 6 insurrection. I’m not sure whether he’ll be charged with being the mastermind or just a master baiter.

This song, the second single from Judas Priest’s 1980 album “British Steel,” reached No. 12 on the UK singles chart, the highest placement the group ever achieved. The LP, produced with an eye toward mainstream success, did even better, topping out at No. 4. The video, coincidentally, bears some superficial resemblance to the idiocy of Jan. 6.

    Hi, Alby,

Thanks for that! One of the best metal bands ever, and Rob Halford, one of the most underrated lead singers ever. I just went to look at the updated “Breaking the Law” video on YouTube, and have spent the last 45 minutes watching metal videos from the ’80s. I guess that I was too much in to folk/Celtic music during the ’80s to appreciate all of the great metal bands of the era, but thanks to YouTube, rock & roll never forgets!

    Best wishes,

    Mike
