Song of the Day 7/23: Steely Dan, “Bad Sneakers”
Let’s play “What’s Fox News freaking out about today?” If you guessed “Joe Biden wearing sneakers,” you’re our winner!
Yes, according to one on-air imbecile, it’s akin to “wearing a Speedo and flipflops to a funeral.” Really? Seriously? Because I see old guys in Skechers every day, and I’ve never seen anyone in a Speedo at a funeral. That must be something conservatives do.
Steely Dan included this number on “Katy Lied” in 1975. It’s one of the first Dan tunes to feature Michael McDonald on backing vocals, and one of the rare ones with Walter Becker on lead guitar.
Poll Idea:
Which is less Presidential? Biden’s sneakers or Obama’s tan suits?
Do you know if the title of this tune was the inspiration for the name of the longtime area band that featured, among others, the multitalented Dale Dallabrida?
It was. Shane Faber and Ward Camp, who founded the band, were big Steely Dan fans.
The ‘fearsome excavation on Magnolia Boulevard’ was a real street excavation in LA that the Dan saw from their window.
