DL Open Thread Tuesday August 1 2023
I went to see Oppenheimer last night and I guess I was still under that movie’s spell when I normally would have been collecting up some quips for this space. So once again, it falls to you, gentle reader, to create meaning out of the news.
Here are some suggested topics:
- Even more evidence to Trump’s additional crimes comes to light.
- Desantis is terrible at running for President
- That fucking Chris Coons, JESUS CHRIST!!
- Trump supporters wonder why Biden has not been arrested and executed yet.
- DEGOP is a truly helpless bunch of losers.
I’ll not review the movie, leaving that to professionals like Andrew C. But I will say that it hit me with the force of a work of art.

‘Where hygiene goes to die.’ is probably not as catchy as the Desantis campaign imagines it to be.
I believe that Carl Hiassen was put on this earth to write a screenplay with The Villages-as-leper-colony as its central premise.
For those not familiar with his work please, PLEASE, read ‘Squeeze Me’. As Mr. Monk would say, I LOL’d. It’s about a certain orange-hued president and the, um, snake infestation around ‘Casa Bellicosa’.

If I can’t have a hurricane plow straight thru The Villages then Leper Colony is perhaps the next best thing. As for “Trump supporters wonder why Biden has not been arrested and executed yet.” would suggest these are the same adorable Americans who wondered “Who will shoot Obama?”. See? If you don’t fix it, it festers.
Maybe we should do a poll on when the first pickleball player gets shot there…if it hasn’t happened already.
