Today’s Thanksgiving prep – stuffing, or more properly dressing, since we don’t actually put it inside the bird. We always have three different kinds – traditional, cornbread with oysters, and sausage with fennel and wild rice. We make so much dressing we don’t actually need a turkey.
It’s not Thanksgiving tomorrow anywhere but the United States, but there’s something everyone can be thankful for. After several weeks of doing it wrong, the people trying to curb Bibi Netanyahu’s blood lust finally found some success: a four-day cease-fire and the release of some hostages.
Markos Moulitsas gives his readers an object lesson in media malfeasance by picking apart a WaPo story that claims everyone in one Wisconsin swing county is sick of politics. As Kos demonstrates, the paper goes out of its way to avoid saying that what they’re sick of is Republican bullshit that prevents government from carrying out the popular will of the people. As Kos points out, this is the whole point: The chaos turns off voters, making it easier for Republicans to win elections.
Why do Republicans, who used to fancy themselves the responsible adults in the room, continue to put themselves in thrall to a mentally imbalanced man-baby? The View’s newest token conservative spells it out: It’s the money, stupid. If there’s one thing that truly marks the Republican mind, it’s not maturity – it’s greed, and a lot of people are making a lot of coin off this country’s bumper crop of rubes. As usual, the ones who think they’re doing the playing are mostly getting played.
Whatever they are, and even I’m not foul-mouthed enough to say exactly what that is, “responsible adults” is the last thing Republicans resemble today. Just take a look at the quotes from the Republicans who lost school board elections in suburban Philadelphia’s Central Bucks school district last week. They lost by wide margins but are demanding recounts – not because they have any chance of succeeding, just to be assholes about it, something that comes naturally to Republicans.
The floor’s yours, and keep your hands off those pies.
Jane “I Can’t Recruit Candidates” Hovington has selflessly put herself forward as the D candidate in the 37th special election.
What a joke.
Yep. Especially since Ruth Briggs King had publicly stated that she would resign when she moved out of the district. Plenty of time to find someone who at least might get their feet wet.
Instead, the obligatory retread in lieu of a legit candidate recruitment effort.
Is this the same SussexWatcher that couldn’t stop railing against Jane after the last election, even though Sussex elected 2 Democrats (tripling their representation) and was convinced that KMcG was going to win the primary?
I plan to help and I hope to see you there.
Geek, you know the inner party workings better than I do.
But what role did Jane Hovington play in Russ Huxtable’s election? Did she recruit him, did she support him in the primary?
I’ll give you Stell Parker Selby as I assume that Hovington backed her.
But she’s been chair for a long time down there, and all we had to show for it was Schwartzkopf and, for a brief period, Atkins, who hardly counted.
We’re finally getting some self-starters down there. Hovington may not be an impediment, but she’s hardly been an asset.
BTW, it appears that the 37th RD has no D chair, according to the Deldems site. Do they even have a committee? Isn’t that the County Chair’s responsibility? Especially since she lives in that district?
Hey, I’m glad I was wrong on KMcG. I wasn’t the only one.
It’s fascinating how the Dems largely win races when they contest them with candidates who have experience and give a damn.
It’s also fascinating how Jane hasn’t done a thing to contest the majority of the seats in Sussex County. (Last time around she was unable to recruit anyone to run against Pettyjohn, Hocker, Richardson, Vanderwende, Shupe, RBK, Gray, Dukes, Collins, Baker, Fuller, or Lee. That’s 12 Republicans she let win automatic election or re-election.)
Plus really interesting how she only steps up when she has a chance to feather her own cap. (She didn’t step up to run against RBK the last few elections – just when the seat becomes open and easier to win. Just like she did in 2012 for the 19th Senate seat.)
I think Senator Hovington would be a horrible prospect in Dover, but would love to flip the seat to a generic Dem. I haven’t decided if I’ll help or not.
Jane ran for the seat, unsuccessfully, once before. I am not surprised she is champing at the bit to get a do-over, especially as since her first race, the 37RD has been redrawn.
She ran for the State Senate. 10 years ago. Her committee was closed.
I honestly don’t think she’s chomping at the bit at all.
Just filling a void that she was unable to fill.
I am prepared to be proven wrong.
Wow. Kids, you’ve just GOTTA listen to this podcast featuring Madinah Wilson-Anton. She’s the absolute best. And really funny!:

Oh, and just WAIT until she spills the beans on a certain elected official who pushed a certain candidate b/c, according to said elected official, said certain candidate’s opponent is part of a ‘Jewish cult’…this is an absolute keeper!
