Song of the Day 11/28: Spinal Tap, “Warmer Than Hell”
Director Rob Reiner – or was it Marty DiBergi? – confirmed yesterday that filming on a sequel to “This Is Spinal Tap” will begin in February. The new movie reportedly will be patterned on the Band’s farewell concert film “The Last Waltz” and will feature guest spots by Paul McCartney, Elton John and Garth Brooks (with any luck, he’ll appear as Chris Gaines).
The members of Spinal Tap have made comebacks before, notably for their 1992 LP “Break Like the Wind” and their 2009 album “Back From the Dead,” but this is their first feature-film sequel. Among the highlights of their more recent career was a 2007 appearance at a Live Earth concert in London, where they debuted a new anti-global warming single, “Warmer Than Hell.” It was released as a single in the UK, where the band actually charted two 45s from their 1992 LP, but it failed to chart.
Amazing. One of the greatest comedies ever made. “These go to eleven!”
