Song of the Day 2/25: Nelly, “Air Force Ones”

Donald Trump wants you to know he’s now popular in the Black community because he’s been indicted and he just released a sold-out limited edition sneaker. Yep, it’s just that easy. If John Carney wants to get elected mayor of Wilmington, he better show off his own line of kicks.

The more likely motivation behind Donny’s golden clown shoes is the same one that led to Trump steaks and other Trump tchotchkes – it seems like easy money. Maybe it would have been back in 2002, when this single from Nelly’s second LP, “Nellyville,” reached No. 3 on the Hot 100. What Trump doesn’t seem to realize is that if he’s gonna play the gangtsa, he’s gotta do some actual time. He’ll have more street cred once he’s convicted, but he probably shouldn’t wear those sneakers to prison.
