Song of the Day 2/27: George Clinton, “Atomic Dog”
Commander, the Bidens’ German shepherd, has been sent to live “with relatives” after more than two dozen biting incidends involving Secret Service agents. I hope the relatives have figured out what nobody in the White House apparently did – how to buy and use a muzzle, something lots of owners of Rotties and pitties have managed to suss out without any trouble.
This 1982 single from “Computer Games” was George Clinton’s last No. 1 R&B hit, and it lives on via rap samples and the soundtrack of almost every dog movie since its release. Clinton said he went into the session with nothing but the word dog in mind and ad-libbed the rest. The video was nominated for several Video Music Awards.
Bow-wow-wow-yippy-yo-yippy-yay, says I!
It boggles the mind that Commander was allowed to bite that many people, but I guess when it’s “the boss’s dog” it gets a lot of leeway. You also have to wonder, though, how much quality cuddle time the beast was getting with the first family.
I read that the White House had adopted a cat, but in keeping with the conventional wisdom that a top-dog politician needs a dog to match I suspect that Delaware shelters are on the lookout for a nice calm – and oh-so cute – golden retriever.
If your dog bites people, in what way is it a “pet?”
If you own a domesticated animal, it’s a pet whether it bites people or not.
