Six members of a construction crew are missing and presumed dead in the Baltimore bridge collapse, but it could have been a lot worse. Alex Jones and his ilk spun lots of conspiracy theories, and that’s before they knew the workers who died were immigrants from Central America and Mexico.
Ever since the Supreme Court’s Dobbs ruling overturning Roe v. Wade, Democrats have outperformed both polling and previous trends, typically by about 8 percentage points, in numerous special elections. It happened again last night in Alabama, where Democrat Marilyn Lands trounced her Republican foe for a state house seat by 25 points. Lands lost the 2022 election for the same seat by 7 points to a guy who resigned after pleading guilty to voter fraud.
Elsewhere on the abortion front, SCOTUS justices took a dim view of the arguments proffered in oral argument by the anti-abortion group challenging the legality of the abortion drug mifepristone, signaling a negatory coming down the line. OTOH, Justice Samuel Alito (R-Forced Birth) indicated he’s open to banning it through other means, though, because that’s the way religion-addled people roll.
I’m not as worried about November’s election as its aftermath. You don’t have to be Nostradamus to predict another Jan. 6-style storming of the Capitol, both on the street and in the nation’s rigged courtrooms and backrooms. The Biden administration sees it, too, and is trying to plan for every stratagem the Trump’s minions might employ. If only they expended that much effort ending the genocide in Gaza.
I’m not sure exactly how long Ronna McDaniel was in the employ of NBC, but it was only a fraction of a Scaramucci. She’s out after the crew threatened mutiny. Donald Trump took a break from hawking $60 Bibles to gloat.
The floor’s yours.
