BREAKING: Rethug Mike Ramone To Run For Governor

Filed in Delaware, Featured by on May 3, 2024

Man, I go out for an hour, and this happens.

As Jason mentioned, it is weird in that Julianne Murray claims that she is running because nobody else would step forward.  Was that true?  If so, will she drop out, or will this be a battle for the ‘heart and soul’ of the Delaware Rethuglican Party, which doesn’t exist?

If indeed it’s a battle of two factions, Mike might as well hang it up.  Here’s the story:

GOP’s Mike Ramone to file Monday to run for governor

This at the minimum means that Ramone is not running for reelection in RD 21.  Either Frank Burns or The Other Mike Smith will succeed him.   Feel free to click on the link for my preferred candidate and donate to him.

Ramone said that one reason he’s vacating the House seat is because  ‘he’s building another home in Sussex County. “I just wasn’t comfortable representing my district and not being in the district all the time,” he said. “I didn’t want people to question my ability to represent my district appropriately.” ‘

“I don’t want to have to prioritize a business need over being a governor for the people in the state,” he said, “and if I’m not fortunate enough to get elected I go to plan B, and that’s retirement.”

At least he supports ‘Plan B’.  Although only as it applies to running for office and losing.

Well, I definitely wasn’t expecting that! I highly doubt he has enough clout to make a dent in the General Election if he gets there. I imagine he could get higher numbers than Bonini but that’s not a high bar in and of itself.

How many January 6 convicts will be invited to speak at his fundraisers, like the criminals his home org Western NCC GOP fetes as honored guests?

In light of this news, only one GOP incumbent in the State House stands between us and a potential super-majority that can pass a proper budget and constitutional amendments on things like voting rights and abolishing the death penalty without them being held hostage by Republicans.

If folks care about making Delaware a better place, I think it’s incumbent on them to find a candidate that they can support, either financially or by volunteering.

My bias is towards my good friend Monica Beard you can donate to her at https://secure.actblue.com/donate/friends-of-monica-beard-1

This sounds like “let me take in as much money as possible to pad my southern expenses”

Ramone probably figures he’ll start the campaign with solid support in the nudist community. IYKYK

    • Thanks to R voter suppression tactics, nudists have been unable to vote.

Most couldn’t produce their voter ID cards.

    • Kevin Ohlandt says:

I stupidly posted about the nudist parties at one of his pools on my old blog years ago and nudists wanted to crucify me because I inadvertently got the parties shut down. It got other media attention cause of my article. Blogging can be a crazy venture at times!

This could actually be an entertaining campaign if Ramone gets the nomination. Ramone usually manages to contain himself but he is by nature a hothead with a history of intemperate outbursts. Some well-placed trolling could set him off.

On the other hand, none of the Dem candidates seem like much of a fighter, and don’t seem likely to go after Ramone’s pro-Chamber talking points (and probably won’t need to).

On the third hand, Ramone will either have to either embrace MAGA or suffer attacks from the right, or at least their lack of enthusiasm. And owing to Trump, abortion is now a state issue so he’ll have to talk about that.

Julianne Murray just put out a statement she is not going to announce for Governor

    • Thanks. Guess her claim that she was only running b/c nobody else would turned out to be correct. I’ll see if I can find a link…

Pretty amazing that she got out of the pool as soon as Ramone jumped in. Would have been embarrassing for the state chair to lose her party’s primary.

        • Alby says:

To be fair, Ramone hadn’t seen his re-election polling numbers yet.

          • mediawatch says:

            True, and neither have I.
But I’ll go with my gut and believe that Ramone saw a loss coming in his Rep district (especially with that second home coming by the beach) and decided it was better to lose a race for governor than for the House. And my gut tells me that GOP voters would rather have Ramone run for governor than Murray, and that’s why the GOP chair, a two-time statewide loser, bailed on a primary race.

            • Alby says:

I agree, but for all we know she’s the one who showed him the numbers and explained all that to him so she wouldn’t have to run.

As for her earlier statement, she might have been so startled to be called by a reporter that she told the truth.

              • He knew he was going to lose. Doubt there was any polling.

Burns fell 41 votes short last time after getting a late start. Never stopped campaigning.
