‘Bulo’s Fave Tunes: May, 2024

My kind of month.  Tons o’ diversity.  So many cool songs that I’m calling an audible and releasing this list two days early–already have a couple for June in the can:

I know, I know.  Had one of her songs on here last month.  I like this one more:

My kind of newgrass!  Do we have a brand new star here??   Featuring Wes Corbett on banjo, who played at the Gild Hall twice with the late and much-lamented Joy Kills Sorrow:

Kendrick Lamar–Best Disser Since Shakespeare?:

No idea which songs Nathan Arizona will like this month.  Gonna go with this indy rock banger…

…or perhaps Nathan will prefer this indy rock banger:

Yeah, I like both the indie rockers, but i think I’m enjoying the throwback “Revelation” more. All that guitar! But my No. 1 is a soft one, the Jessica Pratt song. She’s kind of quirky, but I’ve been a big fan of hers for a long time. Glad she’s getting more recognition with the new (slightly more commercial) album, but I like some of her earlier songs even more.

    • Yeah, she’s been on the list before. Glad to see her getting recognition.

I really liked a lot of songs on the list. In fact, it’s hard for me to pick out faves.

An ongoing trend is that women continue to rule when it comes to top-line songs.

I’m liking that fantasy of a broken heart song more and more. The musicians are kind of annoying, but i can listen to it without the video. On the other hand, Macseal and Wishy aren’t really holding up. I like the kind of thing they do, but I think a lot of bands do it better. And upon further review, I now appreciate just how much Origami Angel rocks. Another good month.

Bronwyn Keith-Hynes has been part of Molly Tuttle’s Golden Highway band for the lat few years. She has been the IBMA fiddle player of the year twice. Good to see her taking the limelight. Molly Tuttle, BTW, is one amazing guitar player. Check out her videos on YouTube.

    • Molly did a concert in our Shady Grove. Rachel Baiman opened, then she and Molly did quite a few songs together. Molly is Da Bomb. BTW, check out Rachel’s blog, The Weekly Croissant. One of the best music blogs out there.
