Delaware Liberal

Delaware Political Weekly: May 24-30, 2024

1.  D State Rep. Sophie Phillips Gets Primary Challenger in RD 18.  I have no idea why as she’s great.  The challenger is one Lisa Cooke, or Lisa Cooke-Rossi, she writes it both ways on her campaign finance committee filing.  Regardless of name, it’s this person.  An education paraprofessional at unnamed schools and past-President of the Jamestowne Civic Association (2006-2013).  That’s everything I could find out about Lisa Cooke.  Anybody have anything to add?

2.  Cindy Romer Gets R Challenger in RD 25.  One David Hansberger.  Link to his website doesn’t work.  Anyone care to fill in some blanks?

3.  BHL Being Targeted By Florida PAC?? This is interesting.  Something called the Citizens For A New Way In Delaware has filed its committee.   The, um, Delaware address cited by the committee?:

2339 Charleston Park Drive, North Port FL.

Wait, we’re just getting started.  For the first time I can recall, the filing includes ‘Affiliated Candidate Information’.   Here’s what’s listed there:

Bethany Hall-Long for Governor   Democratic Party  Position:  Oppose.

So, this appears to be a PAC established for the sole purpose of challenging BHL.  I’m guessing that this is that TransPerfect whack-job PAC.  Why?  Check out the stated purpose of the PAC:

Citizens for a New Way in Delaware advocates for transparency, diversity, and inclusion in Delaware’s state government and court system.

There are lots of reasons to oppose BHL’s candidacy.  Opposition from TransPerfect is not one of them.

4.  Waynna Dobson Files For Wilmington Council At-Large.  She previously ran for an At-Large seat back in 2016.  She apparently was a ‘Constituent Services Representative’ for US Rep. Lisa Blunt Rochester.

5.  Peggy Brooks Files For Wilmington CD 7.  The incumbent is Chris Johnson, who has not yet filed for reelection.  Both are Democrats.

6.  Wherein I Save You The Loss Of Some Brain Cells.  I decided they were too precious for me to share with you an invitation from James Maravelias to hear about Karen Hartley-Nagle’s ‘vision for County government’.  It took place yesterday and, yes, was sponsored by the Delaware Building Trades Council.  I wonder when organized labor in Delaware will wake up and realize that Maravelias is pissing away labor influence.

That’s all I’ve got this week.  What’d I miss, and whaddayathink?
