‘Bulo’s Fave Tunes: June 2024

Best month o’ tunes so far this year.  By far.  I also think I’m gonna nail Nathan Arizona’s fave this time!  Let’s get ready to get down:

Alisa Amador:

I would have loved this band back in the early seventies.  Which is one reason why I love them now.  Both nostalgic and new.  My fave song from their new album–at least for this month:

The first of two songs this month that I heard on XPN before I posted them here.  Doesn’t happen that often.  It’s easy to tell why this is in my wheelhouse–if I was still booking shows at the Gild Hall, I’d be hunting down their booking agent.  OWWW!!:

OK, I think this will be Nathan Arizona’s fave this month–as Fontaines DC begins to solidify itself as perhaps the best band out there.  A Top 10 Tune of the Year for sure. Scratch that–it’s gonna take a truly great song to beat this out as my Fave Of The Year:

It’s tough to follow that.  But I almost had two songs by this band on the list–probably should have:

The second great song I first heard on XPN this month.  Should’ve known that someone this talented might also be a member of a great band.  Oh, say, like, The War On Drugs:

Meernaa:

How old am I?  This is James McMurtry‘s son. James, of course, being Larry McMurtry‘s son. And he has all of the chops, snark, and gift of language as his predecessors.  Calls his music ‘bisexual spite pop’.  “I don’t even feed the hungry when I’m full.”:

Personal To Mike Dinsmore:  Didn’t forget about you!:

A perfect ending for a perfect month of music!

  1. nathan arizona says:

Yes, Fontaines D.C. on top. One of my favorite contemporary indie rock bands (which will usually be a British band, like this one).

Runner-up: The song by Good Looks.

    3rd: Beach Bunny.

Guess I’m in the mood for snappy and punchy today.

  2. We just got tix to see ’em in Portland OR when we visit our daughter in Sept.

Portland is still fighting the good fight against Live Nation. Tickets were only $46 bucks apiece, including the fees.

BTW, Good Looks has more than just that one really good song on their new album. They just got done in by my alphabetical order fetish…
