Trends in popular music evolve rather slowly in modern times, which makes it harder to tell when they shift. Eleven years ago, for instance, this tune was all the rage, hitting No. 1 on the alternative rock chart. It typifies the bass-heavy sound that was popular then – “All About That Bass” was a product of that time – and is out of fashion now.
Big Data is the electronic music project of Alan Wilkis, who used to be in the Rochester, N.Y., band Joywave, which plays on the record. He’s still active, but at this point it’s safe to call Big Data a one-hit wonder.
