Things I Want To See Happen…
…while we’re visiting our daughter in Portland, Oregon where, BTW, we’re attending concerts by Fontaines DC and Orville Peck.
1. I want to see Matt Meyer achieve a rapprochement with DSEA. I especially want him to commit to being a Governor who prioritizes public schools, including the naming of a public school champion to be Secretary Of Education.
2. I want to see a lock-box placed on any more disbursements from BHL’s Opioid Slush Fund. If it takes legal action by AG Kathy Jennings, so be it. Not one more check should be written until/unless this Commission is reformed after January, and until an audit is completed by Lydia York on the funds already appropriated.
3. I want to see House oversight of any spending that lame duck Val Longhurst might approve as the still-Speaker Of The House. No sense letting more ill-gotten gains sneak out the door.
4. I want to see an influx of volunteers to the campaigns of Monica Beard, Tracey Miller and Terrell Williams. I plan to focus on Nick’s campaign when I get back.
5. I want to see Matt Meyer, Sarah McBride, and Kyle Evans Gay, among others, donate to the campaigns of the three D challengers listed above. A super-majority would look great for a new incoming Democratic administration. And they’ve all got the money. Sarah has already donated $100K to the national House D Campaign Committee.
6. I want to see John Carney sign Paul Baumbach’s Right To Die Bill. Read this News-Journal piece, and decide for yourselves why Carney slow-walked it. Clearly, alleviating someone’s pain and suffering is not a priority of his. Worst Governor Ever.
That’s for starters. Something for you to chew on while I inhale the raw oysters at Jacqueline in Portland. Not only is it among our fave restaurants there, it bears the name of my wife.
i still dont understand the get voted out in november and still have a job till january. its like when you put your 2 weeks in and tell everyone “what are they going to do, fire me?”
once your lose they should have the rest of the week to clean out their office for the next one who starts that following monday
The General Assembly changes the day after the election.
At that point, those who lost or who retired are no longer on the payroll, and the newcomers are.

That’s a real gut punch for all the advocates — and Rep. Baumbach — who’ve worked so hard for a decade to get to this point, especially those no longer around because of their own terminal illnesses. Curious to see if the GA does something in the next six weeks or is content to try to start over fresh in 2025.
What a fucking coward. Planned to veto it all along, but didn’t want voters in Wilmington to know.
Doubt that there are votes for an override, but I think it will pass handily and be signed into law by the incoming administration. They should definitely name the act after Paul Baumbach.
To paraphrase a certain football coach, Carney ‘is who we thought he was.’
Val Longhurst could show some real bravery here and come out against the same Delaware Way that saw her reelection collapse. She could call a special session, override the veto — would Mike Smith or Mike Ramone vote for it? Maybe Ramone would because he’s running statewide and the bill is popular.
And then send it to the Senate. This legislature should thumb its nose to this POS governor.
Nah, the D’s don’t have a super-majority, and even one or two D’s voted against it.
Should, and indeed might be, the first bill introduced and voted on by the next General Assembly, though.
A real long shot.
Our Pal Val is getting paid until Nov. 5 and doesn’t have to do anything to cash her checks for the next 7 weeks. Why make the effort?
And she’d have to get her double-dipping peers to skip out of their day jobs at UD, DelTech, wherever, and somebody just might check their timesheets this time.
Yes, an override would have the shameless governor depart shamefully. In fact, I’ll pledge a donation to Val’s reelection campaign if she makes it happen, but I’m pretty sure my checkbook is safe.
It’s about freedom — freedom to choose, freedom from pain, freedom from suffering. But Carney, like his Republican allies in the General Assembly, doesn’t want us to have that freedom. He shouldn’t have run for mayor of Wilmington. He should have sought the Republican nomination for the U.S. House, so he could join the Freedom Caucus.
