A federal judge delivered a blow to Delaware’s plan to expand its port along the Delaware River, ruling that the Army Corps of Engineers failed to follow proper procedures in granting permits for the project. The story appeared in the Philadelphia Inquirer; the News Journal still hasn’t reported it.

Why does Elon Musk want Trump elected? Robert Reich thinks it’s so he won’t be held accountable for all his law-breaking. So he and Trump are motivated by the same thing.

I didn’t realize that those new NIL rules that allow college athletes to earn money from endorsements apply to high school athletes as well – but in Delaware, the body governing high school sports has placed restrictions on the practice that the Indian River football team blatantly ignored. The mystery to me is why someone thought Delaware high school football would help them sell roofing.

The floor’s yours.

I dont understand NIL in Delaware and why public schools would do it. However, there are some tax ways to utilize it for public schools and especially in private schools where the kids parents benefit

    • Another Mike says:

NIL is not being done by the schools at the high school level. It is completely athlete-driven. Schools are not allowed to be involved in any way. Athletes may not wear any school apparel or use team or school facilities in any merchandise or any advertising.

The Indian River fiasco involved athletes in uniform on their field, definitely violations of DIAA rules. However, as a point of clarification, this took place a few months before NIL became law in Delaware.

DIAA approved NIL because it didn’t want a court to set the guidelines had an athlete taken them to court and won. Also, every surrounding state has approved NIL, and the DIAA is trying to keep Delaware kids home. However, I expect there to be little impact in the state.

  2. I have no idea what Matt Meyer will do about the Port.

All I can say is that, whatever he decides, I hope that transparency enters the equation. For the first time.

BTW, I often feel that the Army Corps Of Engineers write decisions by spec. In fact, they do:

    https://delawareliberal.net/2009/10/26/how-the-army-corps-of-engineers-stays-in-business/

    An excerpt:

“Michael Grunwald wrote a brilliant 5-piece series for the Washington Post back in 2000 chronicling how, in one Corps survey, the Chessie ran east to west, while in another, it ran west to east, as it tried to ‘justify’ two separate ‘economic development’ projects.”

    Can’t make this stuff up.

    • Pole says:

Meyer coming into Dover def had something to do with Jimmy M getting pushed out of his role of President of AFL CIO. No way Meyer’s people were gona play ball with a guy who hi spent 4 months personally attacking him.

AFL CIO knows how important the port deal is and weren’t gona have Jimmy M screw it up for them.

Thanks to this blog for making me aware of the Monique Johns fiasco. I just watched the video (starting at the 1-hour-10-minute mark here):

    https://nccde.new.swagit.com/videos/318348

It is somehow even more surreal than I could’ve imagined. I didn’t exactly have a dog in the primary (I voted for Hoover), but I guess this is what happens when you have a five-way primary!

I would’ve given myself close to a 0% chance to vote for any Republican this cycle but by gosh, I’m voting for Melissa Brayman.

  5. Tacitus says:

MJ’s request to NCC to fund her party is all the proof we need that she is a grifter. KHN was an embarrassment but Johns has the potential to take the role of NCCC President to new lows! Looking forward to voting for Brayman.

  6. MC says:

Johns is terrible but I’ll never vote for another Republican for as long as I live. Not after what they’ve done to this country with their “Daddy” Trump.

I’ll just leave it blank. It’s a worthless position anyway that should probably just be abolished. Maybe she’ll be terrible enough that we can just finally rip off the bandaid and do it. That would be a real public service.

    • Alby says:

They wouldn’t want an even number of seats, but it might work if they replace what’s now an at-large seat with a 13th district. That might be a good idea considering the growth of the southern part of the county.

      • Countycounty9 says:

The state Legislators turned it down when they were approached 4 years ago by County council. It was verbal but we were told no so no one persuade it. Must wait until the next census we were told
