Personal To Feckless Joe: Can’t you just shut up for one more week?  Or, you know, maybe stop sending more weapons to Israel? Or both?

A Garbage Truck Named Trump.  Doubling down on the notion that lots of Americans are garbage while sitting in a garbage truck with ‘TRUMP’ emblazoned on it strikes me as some kind of stupid.  The fluorescent orange vest is a nice touch.

The Genocide Continues Unabated.

Gaza:

Israeli forces attacked Kamal Adwan Hospital on Thursday, one of the last functioning medical facilities northern Gaza, health officials reported.

Gaza’s Health Ministry said the Israeli military targeted a floor containing the remaining medicines and medical supplies, while the hospital’s director, Hossam Abu Safiya, told The Washington Post that the attack injured four people and put the dialysis department out of service.

The Israel Defense Forces, which announced earlier this week that it had withdrawn from Kamal Adwan, said it was reviewing reports of an attack at the hospital on Thursday.

Lebanon:

Israeli strikes have killed 19 people, including eight women, around Lebanon’s eastern city of Baalbek, the country’s health ministry has said.

It came hours after tens of thousands of residents fled in response to evacuation orders issued by the Israeli military that covered the entire city and two neighbouring towns.

Mayor Mustafa al-Shell told the BBC more than 20 strikes were reported on Wednesday afternoon in the Baalbek area, with five inside the city itself, where there is a Unesco-listed ancient Roman temple complex.

The Israeli military said it had struck Hezbollah command-and-control centres and infrastructure in Baalbek and Nabatiyeh, in southern Lebanon.

Trump has normalized fascism.  Netanyahu has normalized genocide.

A Real Good Article About Four Competitive State House Races In Delaware.  From Delaware Spotlight’s Jacob Owens:

While most of Delawareans’ attention will be on the race for the next governor in the Nov. 5 election, four House of Representatives races could shape the future of the First State.

That’s because those races, stretching from Milford to the Newark suburbs, have the power to give Democrats a super-majority in the lower chamber of the state legislature.

If Democrats continue to hold their current seats in the House and State Senate and once again win the governorship, as expected, it would mean that they would no longer need to seek bipartisan input from Republicans on any proposal.

Right now, House Democrats require two Republican defectors to approve any constitutional amendment – a scenario that requires approval by two-thirds of all legislators.

The inability to find a bipartisan compromise to breach that threshold has stalled discussions on adding early voting, mail-in balloting and abortion rights measures to the Delaware Constitution in recent years.

The addition of even one more Democratic seat would also safeguard its three-fifths majority for enacting tax increases and overriding vetoes by the governor.

What do you want to talk about?

  1. Just voted early. Was in line for about 20 minutes outside of the Claymont Community Center. It was great. Met friends in line.

This is PRECISELY what Rethugs all across the country have gone to court to stop. Including here in Delaware. What I saw today was democracy. Rethugs sought voter suppression. It failed. They lose.

It boggles the mind in hindsight that what happened today was not ever thus. Those House races discussed in that Spotlight Delaware article? Kevin Hensley, Michael Smith, Mike Ramone, Brian Shupe ALL sought to stop this from happening.

    • Bamboozer says:

There was “a shred of decency” in American politics. As in “That’s just not done here”, the rot set in with Newt Gingrich and has now reached fruition with Trump. And we will never get that shred of decency back. Will vote Nov. 5th, with friends and neighbors as well, plenty of Trump lovers or not.

      • Nancy Willing says:

And Gingrich was first bouyed to prominence by Pete du Pont, of course. Roots of the rot.

  2. Yet another secret meeting on Port expansion.

    From Karl Baker’s story:

    https://spotlightdelaware.org/2024/10/30/edgemoor-port-permit-loss/

“An attorney representing the Army Corps of Engineers declined to comment for this story. A query sent to the agency’s press line was not returned.

Carney’s office also did not respond to email Wednesday seeking a reaction to the judge’s decision.

On Tuesday, Delaware state officials scheduled a last-minute meeting for Friday of the board of the Diamond State Port Corporation, the state-owned entity that oversees port operations and serves as a landlord to the port’s operating company, Enstructure.

The meeting agenda states that the board will “discuss strategy sessions involving legal advice and the content of documents excluded from the definition of ‘public record.’” Those discussions will occur during a secret executive session. It will be followed by public remarks from the board.”

  3. PS says:

So what are we predicting for the state races? Just Burns flips D? Maybe Beard too?

    • Not gonna do one of those ‘Predicts ‘Em All For You’ threads. Just not enough competitive races.

But, yes, Frank Burns wins. I think Monica Beard has a great chance as well–although I’ve only knocked doors up there three times, I’m convinced that the groundswell of women rejecting the Rethugs is real. Heard it at the doors.

Also think that Stell Parker Shelby could lose her D seat in Suxco.

      What does everybody else think?

      • A says:

Unfortunately I believe Stell and Russ are toast. I think Rony has a real and viable chance in the 36th.

I’m getting very nervous for Claire.

      • Lenny says:

Think burns is the safest flip. Beard may come close but not sure she gets over the finish line. Williams prob has the biggest hill to climb down in the 9th but who knows.

        Think Shelby loses.

      • Beach Karen says:

I think Stell and Claire win and Russ loses.

  4. Mikki Snyder-Hall says:

In the 14th RD, with nearly a 3,000 voter difference between Ds and Rs and almost 50% of the Dems have voted, I see a strong #BlueWave!

  5. Grant Brunner says:

Very weird that they didn’t include the 34th race in that Spotlight piece.

Miller has a real shot at taking out Yearick. I think as-good or better than Baltazar-Lopez in the 36th or Williams in the 9th.

  6. Joe Connor says:

No predictions but if you have volunteer time to allocate my suggestions of candidates that could use a push. Beard, Burns, Selby, Huxtable, Snyder Hall and if you are into a mild long shot you could help Baltazar-Lopez put that POS Shupe in the poop chute:)

  7. Wayne S Whirld says:

My Sussex sources tell me that Stell Selby is going to lose and they think Mike Simpler has a chance to flip the seat in the 14th.

    • You really think that women in the 14th are gonna vote for an old white guy?

I’d put money on that one…

      • Wayne S Whirld says:

I know he was a D but a bunch of women in the 14th voted for Pete S for years. I don’t know if Simpler will win but I was picking up on a local versus newcomer vibe that I heard. Maybe a last stand from the locals. Just passing along what I was told. I know there is growing resentment from the locals versus the self-important know it all newcomers.

        • You know how many people who live in the 14th came from some place else?

          A shitload.

          • Wayne S Whirld says:

My point exactly. I lived there for 25 years (year round) and raised a family there. One of my children is very successful and one can barely afford to live in home town. The next time one of the fucking self-important assholes from DC and elsewhere need an ambulance or the fire company who do they think will respond? Mike Simpler
            m

            • Wayne S Whirld says:

Mike Simpler and other local volunteers. The same people who will fix their car, plumbing or whatever else they need

              • MC says:

Well why doesn’t he stick to the cars and let the smart people do the governing. Works better that way.

            • Alby says:

“there is growing resentment from the locals versus the self-important know it all newcomers.”

That’s been true for at least the last 50 years.

  8. Misti says:

I don’t see how Stell can win. People are a bit nervous about the 14th race but I do believe Claire will pull it off. Would love to see Lindner (4th) and Brett (41st) pull the upset.
