Different Strokes for Different Folks
Two Monica Beard mailers landed in my mailbox yesterday. At first glance they seemed like duplicates, because both showed her against a pink background on the front, with a list of polling places on the back. But they weren’t the same.
The one addressed to the Democrat showed thumbnail headshots of all the Democratic candidates for top offices and listed their endorsements, as well as those of various agencies, the Coalition Against Gun Violence, Moms Demand Action and the DSEA among them.
The one addressed to the Republican touted just one endorsement: Planned Parenthood. Make of that what you will.
Just got back from knocking on doors for her. Thanks to Sarah McBride, Monica’s volunteers and, yes, the Coordinated Campaign, there was a great turnout–and another shift is going out soon.
Sarah was amazing. She spoke about how Monica really helped to craft the Paid Medical and Family Leave bill which Sarah sponsored. Sarah said she doubted it would have been passed w/o Monica’s work.
Saw lots of old friends–Josh Whitaker, the irreplaceable Gary Steelman and, yes, Dave Woodside. While people on here have taken shots at Dave, and while I disagree with him on occasion, I keep coming back to this: When the hard work of knocking doors and making calls needs to get done, Dave is always there.
I’ve always been drawn to grassroots campaigns. I just LOVE the way those campaigns start at such a modest level and, thanks to great volunteers and great candidates, turn into winning campaigns, one small step after another. That’s why the people who I’ve knocked doors with over way too many years to think about are my kind of people.
Monica and her volunteers have now given her the best possible chance to win on Tuesday. Here’s hoping she brings it home!
Micro campaigning is just good practice. My walking days are behind me, but I did go to her fundraiser last week. I am cautiously optimistic for this and other GA races. I am in a mix of cautious optimism and mortal fear for Harris/Walz:)
