  1. Eric says:

Seth Moulton is right. Democrats need to get back to bread and butter issues and start to distance themselves from every far left “advocacy group” that emerges.

You know what hurts trans kids more than not being able post puberty to compete in the other sex sports?

    Republicans in power.

“get back to bread and butter issues”

The economy is booming and was headed in the right direction. Voters fell for propaganda and demagogues that told them it wasn’t.

      • Alby says:

But remember, it’s not the voters’ fault for being too lazy to look beyond what they’re spoonfed. It’s the Democratic Party’s for spoon-feeding them the wrong stuff.

        • Bamboozer says:

Yes, it’s a festival of failure all the way around, and driven by money and greed. As long as the “corporate Dems” rule the roost such is our destiny as a party. Until we return to being “the working man’s party” the far right will rule the rural areas, and the poorly educated in general. Living in Delaware is a constant reminder.

      • Alby says:

To be fair, they were also worried about the Attack of the 50-Foot Trans Person.

      • Factz says:

Booming for who exactly? Not the single mom stuffing boxes at Amazon, who can’t afford childcare and rent and is paying 50% more for groceries. Maybe she needs to show more gratitude.

      • AnnB says:

Prices are up. Especially at the grocery store. Voters don’t vote based on good economic indicators. No argument that Democrats fixed that. Voters vote based on how they feel about their personal spending. Low information voters are easily swayed by manipulating their feelings.

    • Alby says:

He doesn’t want his daughter run over by a formerly male athlete? Hey Seth, look up the statistics – $33 billion a year spent treating sports injuries among people 5 to 22 years old. Your daughter is already is danger. If you don’t want her to get hurt, tell her to join the chess club.

The problem with trans athletes isn’t trans athletes, it’s our obsession with competitive sports in this country, which is tied to our system of awarding money for college less to the academically inclined than the athletically inclined, which leads parents to care passionately about what was once child’s play.

    • Eric Blair says:

What far left advocacy groups were the Democratic Party to close to that they need to distance themselves from?

      • KentCoKat says:

One example I’ve heard mentioned is environmental groups. As they advocate for more renewable energy, that drives up electricity bills. Renewable energy may be good for the planet but as Alby said in another thread, humans don’t vote with their long term interests in mind; they’re stressed about paying their electric bill at the end of the month.

        • Arthur says:

the funny thing about renewable energy is elon musk is now running around saying solar power is the best option for the future..and who owns a solar company?

          • Alby says:

Good example of misinformation. Renewables don’t cause energy prices to rise.

            https://energyinnovation.org/publication/clean-energy-isnt-driving-power-price-spikes/

            • KentCoKat says:

Respectfully, that’s a pro-renewable org (and I’m pro renewable!). Here’s what I mean — on my Delmarva Power bill there’s a category called Renewable Compliance which is usually $10-$15 each month (including the dreaded Bloom Energy charge). Nimrods think, “I could be saving $15 a month if not for renewable mandates”. That’s not true, but things like that, and DNREC electric vehicle rule piss people off to the point where eventually they vote R. I think that’s happened to some extent nationally.

              • Alby says:

That charge is there because David Stevenson of the Caesar Rodney Institute lobbied for it long and hard, demonstrating that open government can and should be a bipartisan goal.

All but about $3/month of that charge is for the Bloom boondoggle, which of course has nothing to do with national elections. Few states require the breakdown on rates that Delaware does, so I don’t think they have a specific target like Delawareans do.

The EV thing definitely pisses people off. They don’t understand that something set for 2035 will be postponed once that deadline approaches (see No Child Left Behind for reference) and that without infrastructure buildout that goes well beyond state borders it will be rendered moot.

A lot of the pissed off are old enough that they won’t be buying any new cars in 2035 anyway, but they’re still pissed off about it. Beats obsessing about the cost of funeral insurance.

But I would posit that the kind of people who are pissed off about EVs are also pissed off about immigrants, and trans people, and all sorts of things that bother them for no good reason other than they’re insecure and easily bothered. So ditching environmentalism isn’t going to gain them as voters, but will lose plenty of environmentalists.

That said, I don’t think the posturing crap like “EVs by 2035” mandates do anything constructive for the crisis and, as you note, create negative pushback.

  2. Think I’ve found a great show to take my mind off the election.

It’s called ‘Endeavour’, on Prime. Apparently a prequel to the Inspector Morse series, which I haven’t watched.

Only reason it’s not a binge-watch is because each mystery rewards close attention. Each one (at least so far) wrapped up in one shot. 36 episodes. That’ll get me through November, at least…

    • Jill says:

Yes, “Endeavour” is excellent. On my last season and will be sad when it’s over. It’s been a very entertaining distraction. “Lewis” also is better than most but totally appreciated Morse series. Haven’t found one to beat Morse though Endeavour is close.

      • Mike Dinsmore says:

        Hi, Jill,

Check out “George Gently” if you want to see a good British police procedural. Right now it’s only available on Acorn, but all of the DVDs are in the Delaware library system.

“Vera” is good, as well. All seasons are on Britbox.

“DCI Banks” is another good one. It’s also on Britbox.

And don’t even get me started on “Shetland”!

  3. nathan arizona says:

Agree with you about “Endeavour.” You might also want to try “Lewis,” which follows Morse’s former assistant after Morse’s death. Those British mysteries can get you hooked. Worth a subscription to Acorn and/or Britbox for fans.

    • Jill says:

Big Brit series fan here. it’s not detective fiction, but try TV series “Mum” with Leslie Manville. It’s a hoot.

  4. Arthur says:

hahahaha, after trump won the election russian tv showed nude pics of melania and said the war isnt going to end and if he tries to interfere hell end up like jfk

  5. gary steelman says:

Biden proposed raising the national minimum wage. Both Delaware senators voted against it. Did they cost him the re-election? — a reminder $7.25/hr is our current rate.

    • puck says:

I had forgotten about that. But no one thing cost Democrats the election. At any rate, voters seemed to be complaining about prices, not wages.

      • Jive Miguel says:

What if a contributing factor to higher prices was the fallout from the Great Financial Crisis when for over a decade the Fed held short term interest rates low and through Quantitative Easing suppressed interest rates across all durations and then add on the high levels of deficit spending during the last half of the previous decade during a period of economic growth that didn’t require significant stimulus?

        • Alby says:

Most people who tell you what caused inflation are riding one hobby horse or another. Mine is corporate greed, because the factors you cite were responses to societal problems, while greedflation was just assholes padding the bottom line.

  6. Grant Brunner says:

Every single Dem arguing that we should toss trans people (or black people, disabled people, Muslims, etc) to the wolves simply doesn’t value them as full human beings.

I see you, and I’ll remember that you’re untrustworthy.

The path to a better world doesn’t start with human sacrifice.
