Song of the Day: 1/20: Alice Cooper, “Welcome to My Nightmare”

It’s gonna be bad, but remember, each and every one of these people, from Trump on down, is a consummate fuck-up. So while it will be fucked up, it will be fucked up for them, too, because they don’t know what they’re doing and will just be winging it.

Will their inevitable fuck-ups cost them with voters? I doubt it, because they’ll just blame Democrats and George Soros for whatever they can. Let’s face it, the only reason Trump lost in 2020 was his bungling of the COVID pandemic, so the next COVID-sized disaster – bird flu seems to have possibilities – could be the fuck-up that gets him banished to St. Helena instead of Elba.

“Welcome to My Nightmare” was the title song to Alice Cooper’s first solo album in 1975, the first to fully embrace the camp that crept into his act with the band’s “Billion Dollar Babies.” To replace his old band he employed Lou Reed’s, including guitarist Dick Wagner. The LP reached No. 5 on Billboard’s album chart, but it was all downhill for Vince Furnier from there, though nostalgia buffs helped its 2011 sequel, “Welcome 2 My Nightmare,” reach No. 22.

    Good choice!

I was thinking “Fell On Black Days” by Soundgarden could’ve worked as well. First line is “Whatsoever I’ve feared has come to life…”

  2. My go-to ‘we’re all doomed’ song is this one:

That song doesn’t say we’re doomed. It says the game is rigged and we all have base instincts. If that means we’re doomed, then we’ve always been doomed.
