January can be pretty sparse when it comes to new music.  Not this January.  Could be a contender for best music month of the year.  I’m posting it a couple of days early because I’ve already got seventeen songs. Plus, February’s a short month.  Check it out.  Before you do, though, for all you new music newbies, I post the monthly best-ofs in alpha order by artist.  OK, prepare to be blown away:

OWW-W-W-W-W!:

And now, time for something just a little less subtle…:

One of my musical heroes:

Al beat me to it.  Could be in my year-end Top 10:

Give this one a chance.  It’ll stick with you:

Only one question remains: What will Nathan Arizona like this month?

For me, Bartees Strange of course. And always glad to hear something new from Bob Mould. He’s mellowed over the years and he’s still as angry as most people are in their youth.

Also like that Annie DiRusso, to my surprise. That’s why your roundups are so good – I always hear someone I either didn’t know about or didn’t think I’d like.

Seems like a particularly good month. I’m putting the Sam Amidon song on top. I’m a long-time fan. In some ways I think he’s the very definition of the contemporary folk singer. He does get pretty far out there at times (too far?), though not here. Maybe he’s “folk adjacent.”

But it was a close race. I’m putting Drew Holcomb.second. That song really got me going this morning. I’m with you guys on new-to-me Annie Di Russo. But No. 3 could easily have been Charles Walker or Bartees Strange.

  3. It was just coincidence due to the alphabet, but I liked the Sam Amidon song batting lead-off this month. A great way to ease into musical nirvana.
