The Big Story: Delaware Prepares To Legalize Prostitution. Again.
No, not legalized sex work, which I support. We’re talking Delaware prostituting itself because apparently we’re desperate. There is ample precedent. The Financial Center Development Act of 1981 essentially legalized usury in the form of high credit card interest rates. In exchange for so-called ‘credit card banks’ like MBNA flocking to Delaware. The rationale back then?: If we don’t do it, somebody else will–why shouldn’t we reap the rewards?
Today, history repeats itself. SS1/SB 21 has been rushed to today’s Senate Agenda, allegedly upon the urging of Gov. Meyer. Legal linguistics aside, it represents a surrender to the Musks, Zuckerburgs, et al, of the corporate world. At the expense of shareholders and pensioners. They’ll try to sell it otherwise, but that’s it. It effectively puts an end to the argument of Delaware’s superior meting out of corporate justice. Because, otherwise, companies will flee to Nevada, where prostitution is already legal. Or Texas, where the Wild West and a corrupt AG rules. Will anybody vote no? Will anybody put witnesses on the floor to counter the Delaware Way mouthpieces? We’ll see. But this merely furthers the argument that Delaware has nothing to offer anybody other than gimmicks. Call it self-loathing. And the Delaware Way.
Here is yesterday’s Session Activity Report. I notice that the Senate did not consider the two nominees to the Hospital Cost Review Board. Just something to keep in mind…
Well, SS1/SB 21 is the only scheduled activity on today’s Senate Agenda. May not be enough room in the lobby for all the lobbyists and lawyers. After session, drinks all around! I’m asking my Spies to tell me whether any senators drive home in Cybertrucks.
The House Agenda is kind-of a letdown to me. Although, it’s fair to say that nobody consults me on it. The good news is that all of the bills that I liked yesterday made it out of committee. None of them made it on to the Agenda, though. There’s always next week.
Which is when we’ll talk again.
