Song of the Day 6/7: Rilo Kiley, “Breakin’ Up”

The media is intent on milking this Trump-Musk feud for all it’s worth – schadenfreude might bring in as many clicks as rage does, or at least they hope so. Trump helpfully called reporters, even ones he doesn’t like, to dunk on Elon. Which they dutifully reported.

Rilo Kiley released this song on their 2007 album “Under the Black Light,” which got meh reviews from hipster critics for sounding too commercial. The band did break up in 2013 as main songwriter Jenny Lewis went solo, but they’re back together and touring – you can see them in Philly at the Met in September if you cough up $106.

My millennial offspring explained “kayfabe” to me after I expressed fear the break-up was only performative. I hope genuine and deep disagreement gave rise to the breakup.
I would see a true break-up as a good thing but my cynicism says Trump advisors are merely accurately reading anti-Musk sentiment of the Magati.
