What are you doing today?  Going to a No Kings event?  Watching the parade? Both?  It seems like a momentous day, just hope it’s not too momentous.  Protestations to the contrary notwithstanding, Trump views this as his elevation to the post of Supreme Leader.  Me?  I’m rooting for a deluge and perhaps a well-placed bolt of lightning.

Cooler Heads Don’t Prevail–For Now:

Iran launched multiple waves of fresh missile barrages at Israel early Saturday, while Israel continued airstrikes on Iran, in the most sustained, direct attacks ever between the two regional rivals. Strikes were reported in Rishon LeZion in central Israel and Tel Aviv, while Iranian media reported explosions in eastern Tehran and in the vicinity of Mehrabad International Airport. The strikes, which began on Friday as Israel launched an attack that killed senior Iranian military leaders and nuclear scientists, have thrown planned nuclear talks between the United States and Iran, scheduled for Sunday, into doubt.

Some Immigrants Are More Deportable Than Others:

The Trump administration has abruptly shifted the focus of its mass deportation campaign, telling Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials to largely pause raids and arrests in the agricultural industry, hotels and restaurants, according to an internal email and three U.S. officials with knowledge of the guidance.

The decision suggested that the scale of President Trump’s mass deportation campaign — an issue that is at the heart of his presidency — is hurting industries and constituencies that he does not want to lose.

The new guidance comes after protests in Los Angeles against the Trump administration’s immigration raids, including at farms and businesses. It also came as Mr. Trump made a rare concession this week that his crackdown was hurting American farmers and hospitality businesses.

Anyone know any presidents with business interests in the hospitality industry?  Let me get this straight–immigrants working in those industries are good immigrants,  immigrants working in other professions are bad immigrants.  Got it.

Florida Fascism Flourishes:

Florida officials are under fire after issuing violent threats against demonstrators ahead of Saturday’s “No Kings” nationwide protest, with one sheriff warning protesters that law enforcement “will kill you — graveyard dead.”

The “No Kings National Day of Mobilizations” is set to take place on Saturday, with protests planned across all 50 states, including several in Florida. The protests were organized in opposition to increasing immigration crackdowns and perceived abuses of power, with some aimed at Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) actions in local communities.

At a recent press conference in Brevard County, Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier and County Sheriff Wayne Ivey issued dire warnings to demonstrators. Uthmeier promised jail time for those who engage in property damage, while simultaneously encouraging drivers to “just drive” through protesters if they feel threatened.

Sheriff Ivey escalated the rhetoric further, stating that any physical aggression toward law enforcement would be met with immediate violence and potentially fatal force. “We will kill you. Graveyard dead,” he said.

“If you throw a brick, a fire bomb, or point a gun at one of our deputies, we will be notifying your family where to collect your remains at, because we will kill you. Graveyard, dead. We’re not going to play, this has got to stop,” Ivey said.

Florida Sheriff Wayne Ivey, who threatened to kill anti-ICE protesters “graveyard dead,” has a history of corruption, racial profiling and bribery in local campaigns, despite calling himself a “constitutional sheriff.”

Sounds like an incitement to violence to me.  Or, as Talking Points Memo asks, “A Little Too Eager For Riots, Perhaps?”.

Gotta admit, I’m more than a little worried about what might happen today.

Delaware Cops Oppose Limitations On Cooperation With ICE.  Because of course they do:

Marvin Mailey, executive director of the Delaware Association of Chiefs of Police, and Christine Kemp, president of the Delaware Fraternal Order of Police, said their organizations oppose these two bills and others sponsored by Lynn on immigration enforcement.

“We need to have the availability and the flexibility to be able to tend to emergent situations that could happen with our federal partners,” Kemp said. “I can tell you that there have been situations where the arrests that they were making in this community were done much safely by the information sharing and the assisting of our local partners.”

Is this mic on?  That was then.  This is now.  Not surprised that police would neither recognize, not be alarmed by, creeping fascism.

Which brings us back to today’s protests.  If you’re going, please feel free to share what’s going on.  Hey, maybe I can even figure out how to upload photos…
