‘Bulo’s Fave Tunes: June 2025

Filed in Arts and Entertainment, Featured by on June 30, 2025

For our female music lovers, I recognize that the last two months might have made you feel like Exiles In Bro-Ville.  Wasn’t intentional.  It be like that sometimes.  Well, this month, the sistas are doin’ it for themselves.  And for us.  Starting with one of this year’s most exciting musical discoveries:

Couldn’t decide between that one and this one:

Bar Italia with my micro-dose Song Of The Month.  Need the dose to try to understand what’s going on in that video:

Blood Orange is BACK! A tremendous collaboration:

I recommend every single video that go with his songs.  Music and visuals are sheer artistry:

You’d probably guess he’s Canadian even if you don’t know he’s Canadian.  This one gives me chills:

Was that a month or was that a month?

I like the first Annahstasia song a lot. I get tired of squishy “relationship” lyrics, but they’re hard to avoid and her’s are not the squishiest. Agree about the Pedigo video and I like the laid-back song too. Speaking of laid-back, I like the soulful Blood Orange tune and the country-flavored Dean Johnson, but the Ken Yates one kind of bores me. Some of the videos didn’t really click for me — Yaya Bey styling hair, for instance. Not crazy about all the talking at the end of that song, either. The Superchunk is a nice dose of indie rock and makes me glad they’re still around. I like the Beths but not sure this is one of their best.

re: first album purchases. Think it would be fun if everyone submitted their debut album purchase(s). Rotary Connection and Blood, Sweat, and Tears 1st?…could already see your eclectic choices blossoming.
As for me…Peter and Gordon’s “World Without Love” (my Dad wouldn’t let me play the Beatles on his stereo console). Beach Boys “Surfin’ U.S.A.” was #2 (got stolen in college…left the sleeve).

    • I raved about that BS &T album to my high school pals.

Then, the second album came out…featuring the Belching Baritone David Clayton-Thomas. I HATED it. All the while my high school pals telling me, ‘You sure were right about Blood, Sweat & Tears’.

I love this idea, because I bought a lot of singles before I sprung for an album.

I’ll reveal mine tomorrow with Song of the Day. It’s tangentially related to Steve’s, but there’s no way anyone would guess what it is.

      • I well remember the first two singles I bought. Both on the same day. Richardson’s Variety Store.

I’ll wait for Al’s and then chime in.

  4. Our friends over at ‘Progressive Acoustics’ have shared with us a really cool show coming up on Wednesday at Huxley And Hiro Prose Parlor, 601 N. Market Street.

A fascinating combination of dulcimer and dance. Check this out:

First record purchase? Not sure, but it might have come from the Thomas Edison company. No, my first album was probably something by Bob Dylan, maybe “Freewheelin’,” or something else from the folk music revival like Joan Baez, Dave Van Ronk or Tom Paxton. Before that, 45 rpms by Elvis, Fats Domino, Little Richard and other usual suspects.
