Song of the Day 7/2: Fine Young Cannibals, “She Drives Me Crazy”
If you thought the Immigrants Are Eating Pets story was as gormless as Republican fantasies got, think again. You could tell Kristi Noem wasn’t right in the head when she didn’t just tell the story of killing her dog, she told it as if it were justifiable. But she outdid herself at a news conference about their new Alligator Auschwitz prison in the Everglades when she said an ICE agent told her of an immigrant – a cannibal, mind you – who during a detainment flight started to eat himself.
I can find no evidence anywhere of a reporter following up this statement with any questions, such as, “And you believed this?” or “Do you expect us to believe that?” I take that as a sign the media knows that while she may drive other people crazy, she’s already there.
Fine Young Cannibals had their breakthrough hit in 1989 with “She Drives Me Crazy,” which hit No. 5 in the UK and No. 1 in the US. The song was written by bassist David Steele, who earlier co-wrote much of the English Beat’s material, and lead singer Roland Gift.

They had another hit the name of which I can’t dredge up,
Two others off “The Raw & the Cooked,” actually. The other No. 1 was “Good Thing.”
Yes! It was laying on a loop in my head sans words, “Good Thing” was a summer theme 89-90 ish
