I think that Trump’s madness is hitting critical mass.  This might well be the week when enough people wake up and realize that he is utterly unfit to be President.  There are just too many signs of his descent into insanity for even the press, and perhaps, Rethugs, to ignore.  I’m serious.  Pretty sure the first Trump cabinet might have activated the 25th Amendment by now.  E-clip ‘n save.

Trump Invades Portland.  Not because of anything happening now, but because he remains aggrieved by the George Floyd protests of 2020:

U.S. Secretary of Labor Lori Chavez-DeRemer — a former Oregon politician — is one of the first to applaud her boss’s apparent surge of federal troops into Portland.

In a social media post early this morning, the former representative from Oregon’s 5th Congressional District, praised President Donald Trump’s announcement that he was sending federal troops to Portland and had authorized “full force.”

That’s right, I’d forgotten.  Lose an election, support an invasion of the city where the voters rejected you.  Nothing wrong with that.

While Portland experienced a significant spike in violent crime five years ago, the number of homicides and shootings has steadily declined since then. There were 25 killings in the first eight months of 2025, a 50% drop since last year.

A smattering of left-wing protesters have held nightly watch outside the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility, which is located south of downtown.

The “occupation” of ICE has been at turns sleepy and dangerously chaotic, though only the scenes of tear gas and pepper bullets tend to go viral on right-wing social media.

Top Portland Police Bureau officials have testified that federal officers are sometimes “instigating” conflicts with protesters.

Which is precisely what Trump wants.

Trump To Join Hegseth’s ‘Address To The Generals’.  Ostensibly to ‘tell them we love them’.  What could possibly go wrong?:

President Donald Trump said on Sunday that he would tell a gathering of U.S. generals and admirals in Quantico, Virginia, that they were cherished leaders who needed to be strong and tough.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth summoned senior U.S. military leaders from around the world for a meeting in Quantico on Tuesday — a rare gathering of the country’s military leadership in one location.

Trump’s attendance could overshadow Hegseth, who was expected to discuss the need to adhere to a “warrior ethos” throughout the military and could touch on other areas.

The U.S. has troops around the world, including in distant locations like South Korea, Japan and across the Middle East, which are commanded by two-, three- and four-star generals and admirals.

In almost every public speech he gives, Hegseth talks about the “warrior ethos” and the need for the U.S. military to have a warrior mentality.

Earlier this month, Trump signed an executive order to rename the Department of Defense as the “Department of War,” reverting to a title it held until after World War Two when officials sought to emphasize the Pentagon’s role in preventing conflict.

Hegseth, a former Fox News host (and renowned drunk), has moved with stunning speed to reshape the department, firing top generals and admirals as he seeks to implement Trump’s national security agenda and root out diversity initiatives he calls discriminatory.

It is unclear why the gathering could not have taken place virtually and will likely cost at least millions of dollars to transport and protect the large gathering.

Ugly Americans At The Ryder Cup.  Including the ‘Most Ugly American’.  We’re talking about even the MC having to quit after leading a ‘Fuck Rory McElroy’ chant:

There’s a difference between atmosphere and interference, and Bethpage spent too much of the weekend blurring the two. Boos during practice swings and the sing-song “YEW-ESS-AY! YEW-ESS-AY!” after a European miss were tiresome, but survivable. What crept in on Saturday was different: insults aimed at players’ wives, homophobic slurs, cheap shots at McIlroy’s nationality dripping with tiresome stereotypes, gleeful reminders of Pinehurst the moment McIlroy crouched over anything inside five feet.

Europe answered with performance. So much for home advantage: for two years the Bethpage sales pitch was the snarling, uniquely American cauldron that would rattle Europe. Message received, but the idiots took it literally. Add the optics of Donald Trump’s fly-in on Friday – fist bumps, photo-ops, galleries dotted with Maga hats and a certain politics of humiliation playing to its base – and the swagger slid easily into license. That doesn’t make the Ryder Cup a referendum. It does explain how quickly the rope line starts to feel like a boundary you’re invited to test.

Sunday brought a tacit admission that the line had been crossed. The first-tee master of ceremonies, the comedian Heather McMahan, stepped down from her role after video showed her leading a chant of “Fuck you Rory!” on Saturday morning. The PGA announced her departure and apology before the singles. If the MC is amplifying the worst instincts in the building, that’s not “energy”; it’s an institutional failure.

This Should Cause Some All-Caps Explosions On Truth Social:

Puerto Rican music superstar Bad Bunny — a critic of President Donald Trump and his hardline anti-immigration agenda — will headline the Super Bowl LX halftime show at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, on Feb. 8.

“Super Bowl LX. Bay Area. February 2026,” the artist, who shredded Trump in the music video for hit single “NUEVAYoL” released in July, captioned the short clip.

On X, formerly Twitter, the Grammy-winning artist added: “I’ve been thinking about it these days, and after discussing it with my team, I think I’ll do just one date in the United States.”

That referred to his revelation earlier this month that his “Debí Tirar Más Fotos World Tour” was in part skipping the U.S. because of Trump’s anti-immigrant crackdown. “There was the issue of ― like, fucking ICE could be outside [my concert]. And it’s something that we were talking about and very concerned about,” he said at the time.

I think that there’s less than a 40% chance that the NFL doesn’t backtrack on this decision.  Woke, they are not.

Big Shopping Center Coming To Suxco?  Well, it’s being considered.  Residents are split on the proposal:

Lewes-area neighbors are divided over the latest massive development near the Delaware Beaches.

Some are eager to shop at a new Whole Foods, Target, and Costco. Others fear the traffic the development would bring.

A proposed shopping center with those big-name stores would sit on more than 70 acres of farmland at the intersection of Route 24 and Mulberry Knoll Road – about five miles from Delaware’s beaches and a mile off of Route 1.

Dubbed Atlantic Fields, it would include 665,000 square feet of retail space, making it about half the size of Christiana Mall.

In recent weeks, hundreds of residents have flooded Facebook comment sections to share their reactions. Some expressed glee with the plan to bring popular retailers to their corner of Delaware.

But others say the 13,000 additional cars the shopping center would bring to the roads on an average weekday is just too many for the already busy Route 24 corridor.

I gotta say–the expanded coverage that Delaware Spotlight is providing for news from Kent and Sussex counties is outstanding.  I’ll be happy to up my ante by 10 bucks a month once my News-Journal subscription expires in October.

What do you want to talk about?

I love Spotlight, but capitalizing the “Delaware Beaches” and treating it like some unified geographical location would be like calling the area running from downtown Wilmington to Odessa the “City-Canal District.” That doesn’t help anyone actually locate something.

    • Alby says:

More like the Wilmington-to-Newark axis, or Wilmington to Bear, or really not like Wilmington and anything, because Wilmington is unlike everything else in Delaware.

The “beaches” are two areas, split by the bay and inlet.

      • SussexWatcher says:

My point was not to focus on Wilmington, but to observe the ridiculousness of taking any 24-mile stretch of anything in Delaware and labeling it as a single region.

I would disagree with your beach description. Lewes and Dewey, both to the north of the inlet, have very little in common.

        • Alby says:

They have traffic in common. They have real estate prices in common. They have access to the ocean in common. They have the Cape Gazette in common.

The fact that they all have different town governments as opposed to being governed by the county makes them seem more different than they are.

“The Beaches” is shorthand for the eastern part of Sussex County, that’s all. From a media standpoint, it fits in headlines more easily.

  2. That Mormon Church Shooting Suspect? A Trump guy all the way:

    https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/sep/29/mormon-church-shooting-trump-sign

“The placard, first reported by the Daily Beast, was propped up above a red stop sign. The image of the placard was too unclear to tell definitively whether it also displayed the last name of Mike Pence or JD Vance – Trump’s running mates during his three presidential campaigns since 2016.

Meanwhile, a family photo posted on Facebook shows Sanford posing alongside his wife and 10-year-old son wearing a Re-elect Trump 2020 T-shirt. The shirt from when the first of Trump’s two presidencies ended in defeat to Joe Biden carries the logo “Make Liberals Cry Again”.

    • Phreak says:

Looks like the MAGA chickens are coming home to roost! Anyone really surprised that they will eat their own? Seeing roided-up evangelicals going after the Trump-aligned tradwife cult is the tip of the iceberg.
