Song of the Day 10/15: Blood, Sweat & Tears, “Go Down Gamblin’”
It just might be that Trump and his MAGA movement aren’t as popular as the mainstream media would have you believe, because a lot of those clicks are from people who hate Trump rather than love him. The latest evidence comes in the form of a Trump specialty, bankruptcy, in this case of Dr. Phil McGraw’s media company.
It seems the TV doctor made a doozy of a bad bet. He ended his talk show in 2023 in favor of starting his own MAGA-flavored media company, but despite his glomming onto the president at every opportunity, the MAGAts just weren’t watching. He’s embroiled in a clutch of lawsuits related to the company’s collapse and related financial moves. I’ll bet he envies that other medical man Oprah foisted on America, Dr. Oz, who hasn’t lost anything but his pride and reputation by climbing aboard the MAGA scam caravan.
I’m posting this song with apologies to El Somnambulo, who despises the pummeling vocals of David Clayton-Thomas. It was the lead single from Blood, Sweat & Tears’ fourth album, and its appearance at No. 32 on the Billboard chart in 1971 marked the last time the band made the Top 40. Clayton-Thomas co-wrote the tune with saxophonist Fred Lipsius; both left the band the next year, though Clayton-Thomas returned in 1975 after a lackluster solo album.

Not to bury David Clayton Thomas (he lied), but BS & T’s versions of ‘God Bless The Child’ and ‘And When I Die’ are great examples of horrible cover songs.
I mean, what’s with that clip-clop cowboy-esque take on the Laura Nyro classic?

I like the horn arrangement on “God Bless the Child,” sorry not sorry.
Heard the song.
My opinion of David Clayton Thomas?: Unchanged.
Why would it? He sings it the same way he sings everything else.
