The October 18 ‘No Kings’ March Open Thread
Where are you marching? What are you seeing? What are your thoughts and feelings? Celebrity sightings?
We’re marching in Wilmington, I plan to wear my sweatshirt with Trump and Putin kissing under the mistletoe.
What I DON’T want are speeches by our pathetically-weak Washington delegation, especially Chris Coons. Perhaps there will be a buffet there to distract him from going for a microphone…
Comment away! And say hi if you see me. I’ll be giving out complimentary subscriptions to DL because that’s how I roll.

Please please please please do not react physically to the hordes of maga out there to instigate you. Don’t get baited for clicks and talking points
Don’t think there will be hordes of maga out there.
But nonviolence is the order of the day, as it should be.
I’m heading to the Paris rally at Place de la Bastille in a few minutes. I’ll report back later.
They moved the location at the last minute because a techno-rave was in Bastille. I’d guess 500-600 people at the Fontaine des Innocents near Les Halles, including three inflatable frogs.
Wish I were there — Wilmington or Paris — but wife is in the hospital.
One unofficial count on the southbound lanes of Del. 1 just outside Rehoboth: 822. If that’s close to accurate, there must have been at least 1,200 northbound, closer to Midway. The crowd is always bigger there. (Signs waves are held weekly at both locations.) Blunt Rochester and McBride attended. There was ample support from passing motorists, many of whom had signs of their own.
Just got back. It was a GREAT event! Won’t hazard a guess on attendees other than it was a shitload.
Stephanie Ingram of DSEA was the MC, and I thought she did an excellent job.
The two most galvanizing speakers, IMO, were Lt. Governor Kyle Evans Gay and City Councilman Coby Owens.
The most unnecessary speaker was Dan Cruce, who apparently wangled speaking time as the ‘host’ state senator. I’ve figured out how to remind people on at least a weekly basis of Cruce’s Rehoboth residency. You’ll see…
I can’t even begin to count the number of people I know who were there. I’m especially proud of the turnout from the Ardens. Makes me feel good about living there. It just felt great to be among so many determined protestors.
There were booths set up so that people could sign up to take part in activities furthering the ‘No Kings’ cause. There were some incredibly clever signs and costumes. Meaning, there was lots of laughter.
I think the parade route was about 2 miles long, and there were tons of marchers. Plus people who set up chairs at intersections if they couldn’t march.
Branden Fletcher and Coby Owens served as cheerleaders throughout the parade route.
I shouldn’t have to even report this, but there was not even a hint of violence or discord. Other than the drone that we all waved to. Oh, and some asshole who decided to rev his engine over and over as the march was getting started, which was the only Magat encounter we had.
The event was well-organized and there was such a sense of positivity about it.
Congratulations to all for making this such a meaningful day.
RT 1 northbound Rehoboth had a count of over 1400 at one point! Georgetown was a great crowd and Sarah as expected gave a rousing energizing speech!
Thanks! Anybody attend either the Dover or Newark events?
Hi, El Somnambulo,
We were in Newark this afternoon. Estimated 2-3 thousand, although some estimates are putting it higher. We couldn’t get close enough to hear the speakers clearly, but there was definitely a positive vibe all the way to the back of the crowd.
After the speeches, everyone who could marched down both sides of Main Street to Chapel Street, then back up Delaware Avenue. Lots of support from drivers passing by, and one or two yahoos in pickups cursing everyone they saw.
I think that your man with the motorcycle must have come to Newark after the Wilmington march!
Lots of great signs and costumes. The rally was really well organized, with people from Indivisible Newark directing traffic, assisted by officers from Newark PD and UD Police.
I’m not sure what difference this will make in the long run, but it was heartening to be among so many like-minded people of all ages.
Thanks! And thanks for the parking tip. It worked!
Went to Dover protest. Around 500-700 people showed up, lots of funny signs, a few inflatable costumes, frog, dinosaur, unicorn. One trump supporter being harassed by a forty-something woman. She was moved away from the man by a security lady who was just trying to get her calmed down. There were some speakers, I recognized Sarah McBride. The sound system was terrible we couldn’t make out what they were saying. There was a music group and we couldn’t hear them, either. Please organizers, make sure the speakers can be heard!
I had fun, starting to feel like the 69-70 vibe I’m feeling is starting to propagate to the young.
mediawatch – Hope everything turns out well.
