Song of the Day 12/22: The 1975, “Wintering”

Christmas can be a hectic time for young adults. You’ve left the nest, but your parents expect you to return home for the holidays, and they’re likely to treat you like you’re still in high school. Catching up with old friends you bump into just heightens the feeling of traveling in time as well as space, and you’re hoping to get in and out of there with a minimum of drama.

Matty Healy, frontman and songwriter for British pop-rock band The 1975, nicely captures that feeling with this danceable bop from the band’s most recent album, 2022’s “Being Funny in a Foreign Language.” After setting the scene for a few verses, he sticks the landing:

I just came for the stuffing, not to argue about nothing
But mark my words, I’ll be home on the 23rd
