I like the Joyce Manor best here (and I like it a lot). And I particularly liked the country-flavored stuff (I’m counting the Lord Huron song). I should know this, but why does Orville Peck wear that stringy thing on his face? I understand the idea of a mask, but this is a particularly unattractive one. I’m sure there’s a story behind it and I bet you know it. And yes to Fontaines D.C. of course.

Re: 50-41 – I hadn’t heard anything by Jesse Sykes and I’m really glad I’ve heard this one. I love the Wilco song partly because I love Lou Reed. Longtime Sam Amidon fan and glad to see him on the list.

  2. He has several different masks that he wears–often during the same concert.

I saw him in concert out in Bend, Oregon, then saw him play the Emcee in ‘Cabaret’ on Broadway.

There were times during the play that he appeared unmasked, although it was often hidden with make-up.

Curtain call, though? Yep, he was masked. I, for one, love the gimmick.

Here’s why he wears the mask:

Again, I understand the idea of wearing a mask, but I don’t understand why it led him to hang a mop from his face. He needed a mask consultant. Just a matter of taste, I guess. Oh well, I like the song. It was good to have a chance to hear it. Also, it would be good to see “Cabaret” again.

    • I thought it was an excellent production. Turned the theatre into the Kit Kat Club with an ‘in-the-round’ setting. Before the show started, they featured jugglers, clowns, all sorts of entertainers, along with the pit band.

The show has closed (there was one more MC after Orville), glad we saw it.
