The Trump cabal rightfully is catching shit for maintaining that Renee Good was driving at ICE agent Jonathan Ross despite multiple videos showing that’s not true. That unimaginative response has been the LEO standard for decades. Anytime they shoot someone in a vehicle, they claim the officer feared for his life because the victim was aiming the vehicle at them.
It is very often a lie.
Anybody remember the Lymond Moses killing by New Castle County police in 2021? Same excuse offered, that he drove at officers, same video debunking the claim when body cam footage showed he was driving around them, not at them.
The county paid more than $1 million to settle the lawsuit.
The big new wrinkle in the Trump response: They’re maintaining the lie even though everyone can see they’re lying. The amazing part: Many of these MAGAts claim it’s true even as they watch the videos showing it’s not. Of course, we can’t tell how many of those online MAGAts are real people or live in the U.S., but I think most people dislike having their intelligence insulted.
I’m trying to remember the name of the guy who goes around the country preaching the ‘I was in fear of my life’ justification to the cops. His name surfaced during the aftermath of the killing of Lymond Moses.
Regardless, that killing alone justifies the need for LEOBOR reform.
Good old fashioned union union busting to bring down the FOP. Police must be at-will employees, no defined benefits package, just a 401k and an HSA like the rest of us. Any cop should be fired at any time based on public petition
A friend of friends, Mox Moore, was slain by a MD cop who defeneded the killing as fear of life from dragging. Mox had a history with the Chesapeake City community and an ex gf junkie still lived there. He had a bought an old house across the state line. The incident happened in the rural stretch at night in between, where a mile from home, Mox was pulled over, in Delaware, and was likely drinking. But he allegedly refused to leave the truck and started for home. The cop (Sheriff Deputy? Maryland State cop?) claimed to have been hanging on the door at risk of life and with no recourse but to shoot Mox dead. The Balt. FBI refused to show his mom any evidence, not the truck, it was taken, not the cops shoes or anything to prove he was dragged. This cop was a short guy with a crooked dad, rumored to run the illegal drug trade in the town at the time.
I won’t forget Mox. No Justice.
