H/t to Mike Dinsmore, who posted this in the open thread the other day. I’m not sure how many readers clicked that link, but the AI-generated video has been spreading all around the internet – Paul Krugman even posted it on his Substack the other day – so I’m making it Song of the Day to broaden its reach among our readership.
Demonflyingfox is the internet alias of a Berlin-based professional photographer who has been making AI videos for a couple of years now. He’s the guy behind that fake photo of the Pope wearing a puffy white winter coat, and he’s one of many who put together videos of how the characters from animated shows like “The Simpsons” would look in real life, or at least an AI simulation of real life.
Most of his work isn’t political, but about nine months ago, when Trump announced tariffs on every speck of land on Earth, including a Pacific island inhabited only by penguins, he created a video about the denizens of the Penguins Democratic Republic declaring war on the U.S. that got a lot of attention.
That first Greenland Defense Front video is less than two weeks old, but it got so much traction that he quickly released another on the premise that the penguins, polar bears and other sympathetic fauna will team up to fight the Trumpian forces. We should be so lucky.
