Song of the Day 5/12: R.E.M., “Daysleeper”
Weird contradiction about Trump: He loves being on camera, but he often wants you to not believe what you see.
Yesterday people saw him catch 40 winks in an Oval Office meeting, hardly the first time notorious night bird Trump has nodded off in a meeting when other people are talking. Yet when shown a still photo of the snooze, the White House comm machine, ever eager to insult the public’s intelligence, claimed he wasn’t sleeping – he was blinking. Yeah, sure. Or maybe he was doing due diligence by checking his eyelids for holes.
Michael Stipe’s ode to shift workers doesn’t really apply to Trump, unless tweeting unhinged screeds at 2 a.m. qualifies as shift work. As the lead single from REM’s 1998 album “Up” it reached No. 6 in the UK, but stalled at No. 57 in Billboard.
