She was a very good President Pro Tempore. Karen Peterson, who served with Patti in the Senate, said it better than I ever could:
She was a champion of all things that were good and right. As President Pro Tem of the Senate, she was a facilitator — not a dictator (like her predecessors). She was dearly loved by those of us who served in the Senate with her. Rest in peace, Patty.
I’ll simply add that, while her predecessors would bury legislation in their desk drawers, especially legislation pertaining to human rights and civil liberties, Sen. Blevins encouraged legislators to bring forward such legislation, and got such bills on to the Agenda, where they mostly were enacted into law. That is a legacy well worth remembering.
May she rest in peace.
