My wife and I went last night to see the new Raoul Peck film ‘I Am Not Your Negro.’ It’s a documentary based on 30 or so pages of notes James Baldwin wrote ahead of a book (unfinished) on the assassinations of Medgar Evers, Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr. Tentative title of the never published work was ‘Remember This House.’

This is a strong recommend. Strong. Go see this.

We need to accept this first to fix it. Our institutions are in place to marginalize and hide this disgusting stain. It’s often ignored or excused as part of “the past.” This blight is not going to cure itself. Go see this if you care to understand.

Typical that the soap-opera story about Hunter Biden taking up with Beau’s widow was broken not by a Delaware news organization but the New York Post.

Josh Marshall has an interesting metaphor for what’s going on with the Trump-Russia ties.

It’s impossible to see a black hole because no light can escape, so scientists measure them by their effect on what they can see.

Similarly, we don’t know what’s at the heart of the Russia scandal, but you can measure how big it must be by the extent of the attempted cover-up (and BTW, have you ever seen such a lame attempt at a cover-up?).

I meant, one in which everybody who lies is so obviously lying. These people are childish right down to their inability to deceive effectively, which is usually the first thing a politician learns now to do.

The gerrymandering of safe seats for Republicans has led to a breakdown in their ability to tell convincing lies, because conservatives are so easily conned.

The media played a role, too, by failing to challenge GOP lies for so many years.

  5. Alby says:

Well, since I had no idea what you were talking about, I did, too.

I like the “as you guys would say.” I wonder if he knows the origin of that phrase without googling it.

Meanwhile, there’s a grand farce playing out on Capitol Hill today surrounding Paul Ryan’s Double-Secret Obamacare Replacement Plan. Daily Kos has the latest:

  6. Broseph says:

Alby, I fully agree that Paul Ryan is a weasel. The people of Wisconsin need to get rid of him.

We need to get the healthcare debate out in the open. Hatching the plan for our healthcare in secret is just repulsive.

  7. Alby says:

So now Sessions has recused himself, which is basically an admission of lying under oath.

Credit where it’s due: TV executives knew what they were doing when they went with Trump. This is a helluva lot more entertaining than another season of The Hillary Clinton Show would have been.

  8. Stat says:

The Russians must have hacked this thread and stole comments. This reads like a Pelosi press conference.

  9. Arthur says:

Yes, STAT, if you besmirch the holy biden’s you will be eradicated. I wonder which of the siblingcousins will be the first to run for office so the democrats will run to the polls to elect a name? Its a business deal: beaus poor wife checked into the Hotel California when she married into the family.
