Thanks for this. My familiarity with jump blues is almost entirely from Joe Jackson’s 1981 “Jumpin’ Jive” and the swing revival bands that album conjured into being.
It is popular now for people to take a dump on swing, but in the 80’s I was at parties where the furniture would be moved out and the carpets rolled up and people just danced their asses off for hours. It was a great time to be young.
This is not even a half-step away from the rock ‘n’ roll being born at that time. It’s got a back beat, you can’t lose it.
Oh, yeah, maybe I’ll play some Big Joe Turner tomorrow. It was a key building block of rock ‘n roll.
Just add a little Chuck Berry guitar to this and it’ll sell millions.
