Indictments Taking Toll in Mike Ramone Style Insider Trading Case
Just like Mike Ramone, NY Rep. Chris Collins used privileged information to net a windfall. Unlike Ramone, Collins lives in a state where financial crimes are prosecuted. As a result, donations to Collins reelection campaign have dropped off a cliff.
Since Rep. Chris Collins (R-N.Y.) was indicted on insider trading charges in August, donations to his reelection campaign have plummeted, according to his latest quarterly filing to the Federal Election Commission this month.
The National Republican Congressional Committee cut him off, resulting in a 71 percent drop-off in donations from July.
Did Collins also use his legislative influence to get his opponent fired from her job, like Dirty Mike Ramone did?
“Abuse of Office” is a crime in Delaware and New York, so if Collins had used his legislative influence to get his opponent fired he’d probably be prosecuted for that too.
Here in Delaware …*crickets*
The fix is in; Ramone is under the protection of House leadership. Chamber-friendly top Democrats prefer Ramone to a Democrat.
For better or worse, there is a high bar for criminal prosecution. but Ramone’s malfeasance could be acted on by the House Ethics Committee. From Delaware Code:
Each Ethics Committee may, upon the request of a member, provide a written advisory opinion as to the application of this chapter to a particular situation.
Members of the Ethics Committee are:
Chair: Valerie Longhurst
Vice-Chair: John J. Viola
Members: Peter C. Schwartzkopf, Daniel B. Short, Deborah Hudson
Individual legislators should be calling for an ethics investigation.
Yeah. I don’t see anyone interested in public integrity or ethics on that committee.
Delaware is an openly corrupt state, as noted white collar crime and political shenanigans are not prosecuted here. Growing up on Long Island I’ve made lots of fun of New Jersey but I give them this: They jail crooked politicians by the score, we send them back to office.
These Trump-loving Republicans like Mike Ramone sure are fond of wanting to lock people up, though.
Another local GOPer – Bob Weiner – has a lapse of ethics to put it mildly. I hope you all spread the word.
