Could this be the beginning of the end for civil forfeitures?
The United States Supreme Court unanimously ruled that ‘…the Constitution’s prohibition on excessive fines applies to state and local governments, limiting their abilities to impose fines and seize property.” The case in question concerned an Indiana man who had his $42K Land Rover seized b/c he had sold a couple hundred dollars worth of heroin.
That’s a relief. I was worried it would be “Bernie Sanders Can Go Fuck Himself”.
There are a lot more readers than commenters. Just yesterday there were 1,855 unique page views with 10% going to the Carper story. That isn’t huge, but it is consistent.
I’m not chest thumping, just pointing out that there is a place for thoughtful, meaningful blog-based journalism, (like yours and Alby’s) and angry bomb-throwing (like mine) in the local media landscape.
