Once Again, Theresa May’s Brexit deal fails

Filed in National by on March 12, 2019

With Theresa May in charge and ceding so much power to the UK version of our #MAGA brainiacs, the UK is fucked. The way forward is categorically ruling out a “no deal EU exit” and holding another referendum on EU membership. She can’t do it though because her majority hangs by a thread which gives the lunatics all the power. I mean, she could – but that would take political guts, and when it comes to political guts, May makes John Carney look like Martin Luther King.

Scotland’s first minister Nicola Sturgeon has said that the fact that “a handful of DUP MPs held more sway over Scotland’s future than our own national parliament” demonstrates more clearly than ever that the case for Scottish independence

Sturgeon said that May and her government “should be hanging their heads in shame” after the outcome of the vote which she described as “entirely predictable”.

Calling for May to rule out No-Deal and call a second EU referendum, she added:

Ruling out no deal and extending article 50 would stop the clock on Brexit and enable another referendum on EU membership to be held. We will support any such referendum, provided it has the option to remain in the EU on the ballot paper.

Scotland’s needs and voice have been ignored by the UK government throughout the Brexit process, and today a handful of DUP MPs held more sway over Scotland’s future than our own national parliament – that demonstrates more clearly than ever that the case for Scotland becoming an independent country has never been stronger. We will continue to stand up for Scotland and to reflect our nation’s overwhelming vote to remain in the EU.

  1. Delaware Dem says:

Here is a good question that I am actually curious about: Is Bernie pro-Brexit? Labour Leader Jeremy Corbyn, dubbed the Bernie Sanders of Britain by some, has straddled the line accepting the referendum result though wanting some kind of fantasy deal that, as May found out, is impossible. He did this because his party is divided between free/fair trade forces and anti-free trade forces, much like Democrats across the pond are. But the open secret was that Corbyn himself was pro-Brexit.

The choice the UK was always going to face, no matter the three years of pursuing some sort of fantasy deal nonsense, was either to leave the EU (hard Brexit) or to stay in the EU. So the UK will be a good test case to find out what happens to a country when it ends free trade. I am actually looking forward to the results (of course the total collapse of society in the UK is a negative, but they chose this).

    …but they chose this).

Actually only 34.73% of the total electorate chose to leave the E.U.

51.9% of those who voted chose to leave; 48.1% chose to remain. Most of the 51.9% were English and Welsh; Scotland and Northern Ireland voted to stay. Scotland by 62%.

What’s Kamala Harris’ position on Brexit?

    • RE Vanella says:

      Nobody knows. Nobody cares.

      Notice.

      • RE Vanella says:

        Notice

The reason why nobody cares about Harris & Biden”s position on Brexit… the reason why it’s “not interesting”…

Is because Biden & Harris are irrelevant.

REV: But Brexit IS interesting. You’re a Corbyn fan, I believe. What’s your view of his Brexit position (if it can be discerned at all)? What does it say about Bernie, who, unlike Biden, is often linked (philosophically) to Corbyn? Brexit seems to reflect a mood we also see in this country. Reactions to that mood vary.

  5. RE Vanella says:

You want play games? I can play games too.

I’ll link Biden and Schlutz (philosophically) to Theresa May. What their position on Brexit?

I never said Brexit wasn’t interesting. I said the positions of foreign politicians on Brexit isn’t interesting. It’s entirely irrelevant regardless of similar “moods”.

The point is Del Dem has a fixation on Bernie particularly.
