BREAKING: Supreme Court Rules That Citizenship Question Can’t Be Added To Census–At Least For Now

Filed in National by on June 27, 2019

The news wasn’t ALL bad today. From the NYTimes:

In a setback for the Trump administration, the Supreme Court on Thursday sent back to a lower court a case on whether the census should contain a citizenship question, leaving in doubt whether the question would be on the 2020 census.

Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr., writing for the majority, said the explanation offered by the Trump administration for adding the question — asking whether a person is a citizen — was inadequate.

The 4 liberals plus Roberts joined together on this decision. It could conceivably be reconsidered, but time is growing short for the Trump Administration to come up with a plausible explanation for the proposal.
