Highlands Bunker Hosts Crap Journalist – Very Disappointing/Frustrating Episode
The entire podcast is taken up with Meredith Newman explaining how journalists can’t allow for anything except he said/she said reporting. …otherwise (?)… It is gross. I need a shower.
The sham objectivity of our journalist who give equal time to the truth and to flat out lies IS A BIG PART OF WHAT HAS GOTTEN US HERE.
If you can’t listen to the whole thing just know, 2+2=5 (because some say it equals 4, and some say 6, so it must be 5)
News Journal health reporter Meredith Newman joins Rob in the virtual bunker to talk about her path to Delaware journalism, the experience of reporting on the Coronavirus crisis across the state, and what it’s like to be able to talk one on one with John Carney. Subscribe to the News Journal.
Show Notes:
When you don’t have sufficient knowledge to add context to your writing, all you have to go with is he said/she said. Or, in the case of her attempts to cover Joe Biden, “the Associated Press/Washington Post/New York Times reported.”
In three years here, she’s learned a bit about her prime assignment — healthcare — but she’s in over her head on most other things.
But be careful about shooting the messenger. Right now, she’s the best we’ve got. And that’s because Gannett/Gatehouse persists in hiring low-cost fledgling reporters with little connection to the state because they believe that’s all we deserve.
There is just a lot of journalism school orthodoxy about the purity of blank slate objectivity that comes through loud and clear.
That sham “objectivity” isn’t neutrality. It enables dishonesty, so it is dishonesty.
