Biden calls out “moderate” Democratic senators, urges ‘action’ | TheHill

Touting the need to pass legislation on voting rights, Biden dismissed criticism over Democrats’ inability thus far to move certain bills forward, noting that Republicans remain nearly universally opposed to the pieces of legislation and are joined by two Democrats the president declined to name.

“I hear all the folks on TV saying, ‘Why doesn’t Biden get this done?'” he said Tuesday. “Well, because Biden only has a majority of effectively four votes in the House and a tie in the Senate, with two members of the Senate who vote more with my Republican friends.”

First we hear reports of a cyber attack on a gas pipeline as travel season approached. Gas prices increased even as supplies quickly returned to normal.

Now we hear reports of a cyber attack on a large meatpacking plant just as summer grilling season gets underway. Meatpacking operations are quickly recovering and returning to normal, but the press is already preparing the ground for major price increases.

Am I missing something, or are our industries welcoming these “cyber attacks?” They seem to be short, strategic, well-publicized, and quickly resolved – except for the price increases.

  2. OK, so the D’s handily won this special election in New Mexico:

Just look at the narrative. D’s are ‘relieved’ that R attacks didn’t work.

Really? You have a Party that is now historically unpopular, and the D’s worry that attacks against something like ‘defund the police’ will cost them their majority?

How about running against a Party that literally wants to destroy democracy to maintain relevance? Maybe it’s just me, but I think that’s far more powerful than playing defense against a phony piece of demagoguery.

I read now that D’s aren’t gonna focus on Trump in 2022. Maybe it’s just me, but whether you run against Trump or Trumpism, you’re running against what the Rethugs have become.

Grow a pair of whatever is your preference.

    I mean, really.

Just as Republicans will turn out in record numbers to vote for Trump, Democrats will turn out in record numbers to vote against him.

Therefore, the 2022 midterms will be entirely about Trump. Every election until he dies will be about Trump.

“D’s aren’t gonna focus on Trump in 2022.”

Hillary’s 2016 campaign almost entirely consisted of negative advertising against Trump.

      And?

Trump was the devil nobody really knew from a political perspective. I think Biden v Trump is a better (more up to date) guide.

Biden did make the race about Trump and it worked to get Dems out.

The last favorability rating I could find for Hillary Clinton had her at 45-39 favorable/unfavorable — low favorability among former presidential candidates, whose favorability tends to rise once the election is over. That she’s still below 50 percent five years later indicates that she was uniquely polarizing.

Biden is not, which is why he consistently polls in the 52-53 favorable range. And, given that demonizing the Democrat is the only Republican strategy, a bland guy like Biden was the perfect foil for Captain Fat Ass.

      • puck says:

Republican voter support for Trump is already baked in. Trump will not be weakened by more Democratic negative ads. Nor will Republican Congressional candidates be weakened by ads accusing them of supporting Trump or Trumpism.

        • Alby says:

Ads are very last decade. They don’t matter, as most people just block them.

So-called “free” media is the game, and the key to turnout is for Republicans to keep acting like Republicans. Every outrage strengthens someone’s resolve to vote against them. All political motivation is negative motivation — people today vote against candidates, not for them, as Rachel Bitecofer showed.

Trump doesn’t even have to be mentioned. I think he’ll get plenty of headlines, serving as a constant irritant that will drive people to the polls. Their belief in the Big Lie is part of their refusal to accept that theirs are minority views, something that seems to motivate Democrats to prove them wrong.

As for the independents, I do not believe the independents will have forgotten either the ugliness or the mismanagement of the last regime in 17 months’ time. Biden’s approval ratings have been just as steady as Trump’s. As long as he doesn’t do something to alienate people, I think Democrats might hold their own. We’ll see.
