Breaking: Rep Madinah Wilson-Anton to File Ethics Complaint Against Brady
The political consequences facing disgraced state House Representative Gerald Brady (D-RD4) continue to mount as the Delaware Call has learned that an official ethics complaint will be submitted in the Delaware General Assembly.
Yesterday evening, the Members of the Boards of Directors of both the Delaware Chinese American Association (DCAA) and the Chinese American Community Center (CACC) signed an email which said in part:We believe that Mr. Brady is no longer fit for office as a state legislator, and we call for his immediate resignation. (Snip)In reply to the joint DCAA/CACC email, which was addressed to all 41 Members of the Delaware House of Representatives, Rep Madinah Wilson-Anton (D-RD26) wrote, “I agree with you and stand with you. I am in the process of filing an official ethics complaint.”
What is he trying to prove by sticking around?
That he can drag everyone else down with him?
I think Pete & Val WANT him to stick around–just long enough to guarantee that a Special Election to replace him will not be held until AFTER they redistrict RD 4 out of existence for 2022. That will likely occur in late October.
After that–he’s gone. They’d find it well nigh impossible to eliminate a district with an incumbent D. Brady, who has publicly stated that he’s a lame duck, is the perfect useful idiot for them.
In other words, by sticking around for now, he’s enabling the Kop Kabal to get rid of his district. Just one final FU to his constituents. Pete ‘n Val hold all the cards here. He’s just the pathetic joker in their cynical game.
I know you covered it, but refresh my memory. What’s the pension situation if he resigns today?
I think that, unless he is tossed out of the House, he keeps his pension.
I’m starting to wonder if Val contacted Betsy Daniello and asked her not to call for Gerald’s resignation so that she could pull this stunt.
I mean, you just KNOW that Erik Raser-Schramm and Jesse Chadderdon would have immediately called for his resignation.
Let me also point this out: Pete and (especially) Val are all about keeping their leadership positions even if it means limiting D gains. You’ll notice that you don’t have any House Rethugs calling for his ouster. Why?
You get rid of Gerald, you maybe keep both Ramone and Smith. They’re in on this, too. Hey, maybe they get another downstate district carved out for them.
You know who heads the ethics committee, right? None other than the tag team of Pete ‘n’ Val.
True. But it’s an action-forcing mechanism.
We know that Pete ‘n Val want Brady out. But not until after they pass their redistricting scheme.
So–what are they holding over Brady? He knows that they could bring a motion to the floor to expel him. Which would mean–no legislative pension.
I think that’s the deal–they’ll sit on the complaint and he’ll get his pension.
Which doesn’t negate the fact that only Rep. Medinah Wilson-Anton did what needed to be done. She has guts, and I can’t praise her highly enough.
^^^^Likey
1 person finally stepped up. This leads us to know that every single other legislator agrees with Brady and feels that way about the Asian American community
No, it leads us to know that all the other legislators chose the better part of valor. Stupidity and cowardice are different things. Consider Chris Coons for example: Certainly the smartest person to represent Delaware in Washington in my 48 years in Delaware. Yet also one of the least courageous.
They don’t agree with Brady. They mostly don’t want their own motives questioned and their own pasts dragged through the mud.
Or, to put it another way, ever see “Serpico”? Fifty-nine legislators decided they’d rather not be shot in the face.
Senator Sturgeon is now calling for his resignation.
Like Sen. McBride, she too shares some election districts with Brady.
3 ED’s, about 4,000 registered voters.
Meanwhile, Rep Smyk skates.
If you recall:
“The lawsuit states former Trooper Steve Smyk, who now serves as a state legislator representing Milton and Lewes, circulated an email claiming Oldham conducted a police stop while her child was in the car, and that the car was then carjacked. Over the course of nine years, the suit states, Smyk harassed her three times, but no further details are provided. “Smyk received a talking to, but no discipline,” the suit states.
During that time, the suit states, Dean mocked Oldham and encouraged Smyk’s harassment of her.
“[DSP] told [Oldham] to just steer clear of Smyk because this is how he is and he will just continue to bother [Oldham],” the suit states.
Smyk said he could not comment on the pending litigation, but added there is another side to the story.
“I didn’t do anything that could put my job or family in jeopardy,” he said.
Smyk said he would like the case to go to trial because he can provide witnesses who would prove he did nothing wrong.”
Smyk allegedly sexually harassed a female officer. He allegedly DID something, not SAID something. Thats a big difference.
Where are the calls for an ethics investigation here? The calls to resign?
I think they’re waiting for the judicial process to play out.
However, unlike the Senate, where Darius Brown was stripped of a key committee post, NO action has been taken against Smyk.
Which is one more reason why the Kop Kabal must go. They protect their own.
I feel like we are setting the bar for when ethics complaints should be filed and when resignations should be demanded. Surely double-dippers, feather-bedders, and nepotists cannot clear that bar either. Let slip the dogs of war!
The Rs continue to say that it was wrong for Brown to be on the judiciary committee saying its a conflict of interest.
i guess because brown could attempt to use the committee to meddle in his case or pass laws to get off his charges?
Isnt Smyk on the same committee as brown?????
why has not smyk been removeds from the same committee while his case is processed
Because Smyk’s case is a civil, not a criminal, matter.
Because he was a cop, and Schwartzkopf, who flat-out KNOWS how women and minorities have traditionally been treated on the police force, identifies with Smyk’s behavior. Our PAL Val owes her job to the cops, and Larry Mitchell is also an ex-cop.
As long as they remain in leadership, no sanctions will ever befall their fellow officers/politicians.
Hey El Som, is there any easy way to see how the various districts overlay/overlap … including NCC Council, State reps, State sens etc.? Is the only way by searching an exact address?
Don’t know about Council Districts.
But all I do is to go over to the Department Of Elections website, and click on the senate districts here:
https://elections.delaware.gov/services/candidate/regtotals.shtml#rvtm
and see which senators have ED’s from which Rep. districts.
You can also access ALL district maps here, including Council maps, which is most helpful:
