Zelenskyy Addresses Biden Directly

Filed in National by on March 16, 2022

In words and images, Volodymyr Zelenskyy made an impassioned case for US intervention in Ukraine by means of a “No Fly” zone.

The images of a happy successful Ukraine prior to Putin’s invasion, contrasted with the same views during the invasion with broken and bombed buildings and people were powerful.

The only captions….  “this is a murder” and at the end…”close the sky over Ukraine”

Nobody except some psychos wants WWIII, but…

I wonder if Biden and his team are treating Putin as they are accustomed to treating Republicans. That is to say, giving far too much deference to what the anticipated reaction would be.

There are hardly any Russian aircraft operating in Ukraine. It appears that most damage has been from missiles fired from the ground, or missiles fired by aircraft that is in Russian airspace. But you can bet that the moment we (U.S. or NATO) declare a no-fly zone, there will be Russian planes over Ukraine daring us to fire on them.

Once we do, it’s a no-holds-barred fight between two nuclear powers. This has never been done, so no one knows how that would end.

It’s why we watched impotently as the Soviets erected the Berlin Wall.

The armchair strategist in me says NATO should build up forces elsewhere in friendly territory bordering Russia like in the Baltics, to force Russia to react by committing resources away from Ukraine. This may be a good time for one of those massive joint exercises in the Sea of Japan.
