Friday… the THIRTEENTH!?  Scary. Especially if you are a POC in Georgia at a “routine” traffic stop.

How does a “left lane violation” lead to search? Oh right, racism.

I like the folks who are defending the Georgia Cops by noting that nobody was shot.   #Professionals!

I also like how the George police were able to PROVE that race had nothing to do with it by releasing the body cam footage they had of the many times they shook down Sewannee’s Field Hockey Team.

Law of unintended consequences & Putin’s war:

LONDON — Finland’s leaders said it intended to apply for NATO membership “without delay” — prompting Russia to threaten that it would “be forced to take retaliatory steps” if the Nordic country joins the Western military alliance.

Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin and President Sauli Niinistö released a joint statement on Thursday announcing their support for Finland — which shares an 810-mile border with Russia — to join the alliance.

“NATO membership would strengthen Finland’s security,” the statement said. “As a member of NATO, Finland would strengthen the entire defence alliance.” The leaders added that Finland must apply “without delay” and expressed hope that the steps needed to make the decision would be “taken rapidly within the next few days.”

Marin’s Social Democratic Party is expected to announce a decision about joining on Saturday, with the five-party governing coalition in Helsinki expected to announce on Sunday

Maybe is time to address climate change now that rich people are being impacted?

Remember when Chris Coons worked hand in glove with Republicans in the Senate to push through all those Trump judicial appointments?   Good times.  I wonder that all those Trumpy judges are up to now?

Y’know, if I was in carney’s shoes, I would have held a press conference with Dr Allen, head of Delaware state police, and president of the officers union where we “jointly condemn” the behavior of the georgia patrol officers. I’d then slowly start name dropping the individual officers involved, mention the names of their wives and kids, and describe the kinds of places where they lived. Naturally this is going to be exceedingly uncomfortable for the cops in the room, but it would serve a twofold purpose -1) normalize threatening behavior against bad-acting public officials and 2) telegraph a message to our local boys that they aren’t safe either.

This is doable and practical. “…held a press conference with Dr Allen, head of Delaware state police, and president of the officers union where we “jointly condemn” the behavior of the Georgia patrol officers.”

Then you veer off into dreamland.

But yeah…I’d have loved to see Carney do something. Anything.

Admit, we were all relieved when it was Delaware police that did this.

What the DSU lacrosse team incident proves: The path to reining in our out-of-control police goes through drug legalization.

The “war on drugs” is what gives police carte blanche to terrorize minorities and other undesirables. It’s why the DSP fights tooth and nail to keep weed illegal.

Said “war” was, is and always will be a jobs program for police and prosecutors. Wanna cut wasteful government spending? Start there.

The path to reigning in cops is through union busting. Break the unions’ back and LEOBOR will be easy pickings. I’m all for cannabis legalization but if you want to get immediate results then it’s by remaking police into at-will employees with civilian review.

I would love to see a charter system for police departments, similar to schools. Create merit-shop departments, funded by diverting funds from traditional departments.

      • Alby says:

My way is easier. Head-on will get you nowhere — you might have noticed that they’re somewhat entrenched? — and union busting will have negative effects that go beyond the police.

Which you’d know if you were actually a progressive, and if you weren’t who I think you are.
